I would tile the floor using the correct adhesive and grout , this way you can wash it weekly and it will be 100 times better and easier than a wooden floor...............i also use wood chips to cover the tiles

My problem is that nobody here wants a small job. Whenever I have tried to get tradesman for a small job their just not interested. I love diy but not very good at it and this project needs to be done properly. Thanks for your help

For my inside flight and shed i have used those self adhesive floor tiles, the ones that look like tiles or linoleum but involve no grouting. Really easy to put down and keep clean.

I used to use sawdust, the coarse stuff. Once a week i would spray lightly with water to damp it down, sweep it up and put fresh down. Since bringing the floor levels up i use newspaper and change daily its much easier

Oh, I can't imagine not hosing down a aviary! How on earth would you contain the amount of poop? Of course I am speaking as a complete novice to the aviary scene, but seeing the amount of deposit my guys leave behind, extrapolate to an aviary ..........yikes!

I thought the only way you could hose is by laying tiles or concrete as wood would just rott. Interested to hear what others say. Thanks for your reply

Wood is not easy kept clean , in the worst senario i would lay lino down and add a skirting board to avoid the lino curling up at the edges......................below the perches you can lay poop boards , i use plastic fascia board...................or scatter wood chips over the floor and clean weekly, a huge bale of this will last months and only costs about a tenner.

i put a floor covering down and put a baton arond it all to keep it held down on the edges.....then my cage plinth on top ...and then my cages on top of that ....then i made my flight on top of it ...and in my flight a put down wood chips... ...so in the flight where all the poo gets..... its very easy to keep clean ........i just mop it all once a week to keep it clean ....

Thanks everyone. I now have a few options if tiling doesn't work out. As I said it is difficult to get small jobs done here. I am not too worried about doing the grouting etc myself but cutting the tiles might need special equipment. Mickmay your flight looks great and I forgot about the good old mop and bucket. thanks!
