Hey guys, just wondering if you could help me out....Daisy has been sneezing pretty much since yesterday i did a google search 1st but was mostly people saying that the budgie should go to the vet asap etc.....so here's what happens when she's eating she sneezes, when she's sitting on here perch she'll randomly sneeze...yesterday Daisy decided to put her head in the water pot....dont ask why...there's no "snot" coming from her (not that i can see) just checked her poo and some of it's like greeny stuff and there's normal black\brown with white in the middle, also i've noticed just a green stain with a brown edge on the sand paper too... im probably worrying over nothing. i cant really tell with her personality wise as im still getting used to her :/
thanks

Well, I can't say for sure. All I can say is Munchy used to sneeze quite a bit when I first got him and will randomly now. He'll also make a sneeze/cough noise repeated with his beak open slightly after eating every once in a while, but he shows now signs of being ill. No runny/crusty nose or eyes. After eating I hear it can just be that they're readjusting their crops, or perhaps it's dustier in your house than she's used to? Best wait for more informed advice from someone else ^^

she seem's fine....i mean i can hear her eating the millet like a millet addict...just want to be sure...maybe it is just dustier, i USED to smoke in the house until i got her (now outside with door closed) so i might just need to air the living room out for her and dust it down while she's in the bedroom maybe..

The residual smoke could be a factor, so could any residue from those air fresheners - I have just come from BB's thread where you asked the question - Does she have any staining in her feathers above her nostrils? That can be an indication of a resp infection/aggravation as well as the sneezing. The other thing I can think of is if her seed is dusty it could cause her to sneeze too. May be worth sieving some of her seed just to see if there is a lot of dust in it. I got a pack of seed that had weevils in it, and the dust they produced was horrible!

I would guess the sneezing is caused by the dry air or household products

My initial thoughts too, Barrie. New budgie in a new enviroment. Just trying to cover other bases, in case.

It's really a good idea to get handy with your camera, and be able to put up clear close up shots of your bird. That way you can get a range of advice from everyone, and everyone gets a good look at any problems.
Sometimes written descriptions just aren't enough. Remember, we are not vets, but together there is a good range of basic experience to help.

To overcome the dry air, Rob, a shallow bowl of water (about half an inch deep) and shallow enough dish so Daisy can climb out of (something like a pie dish) placed in the room where DAisy is can help raise the humidity levels. She may also decide to take a bath as well. One or even two of these can help dramatically, especially if you are using central heating/air conditioning as these really dry the air out. Check the water evry day as you may be surprised how quickly it evaporates.

You're welcome. If she does use it to have a bath, just make sure she has time to dry off before the cool night air comes knocking. You don't want her getting chilled.
