On the iphone 4S - how much do you pay in Japan per month for average use phone plans?
I need a new phone, as my current phone is so old and useless, it may as well be carved out of wood. I've just been holding out as I'm on this really old plan that's only $10 a month. Hard to give up.

We pay like $15 for the phone plan and $50 for unlimited 3G net-plan for the phone. If you sign up for the carrier's e-mail you have to pay for those so we just the free one that Apple gives. Feel sorry for the people who don't know better and sign into their plan.
The way the iphone works you could actually get by with paying only for the phone service and limit the net use to wi-fi, the downside is that you can't use the net on the 3G network.
My old phone was only a few years old and had gps and all that jive but it wasn't very easy to use and it took me forever to type even the shortest e-mail. The new iphone takes voice dictation, you just tell it for example "e-mail my wife and tell her that I'm going to be home late tonight" and it will actually do it, of course if you happen to be Scottish you're sh*t out of luck because no software on Earth and most humans can't understand them.

So that Siri thing works, huh? I don't imagine I'd be using anything other than wi-fi, piggy backing off my own home network or maybe at a coffee shop with free wireless. My partner has the old iphone 4. It's so easy to use and just syncs in easily with my mac laptop. Not that I'm into always getting the latest of anything, but it's getting a bit embarrassing going to client meetings with my current donkey phone. They look at me like I'm a dinosaur.

I think I'm looking at $60 a month, for the 3G network with a reasonable amount of access, including the cost of the phone over a two year plan.
Sounds close to what you're getting.

As long as it doesn't have a hole in the back with string coming out I wouldn't let it bother me, but it is amazing the peer preasure in today's world to buy new even when the old isn't broken. I still use my i-pod mini from 8 years ago or so, sometimes people think it's a new thing because they don't remember it.

Poor kids would come out of her class in tears saying "My English sucks!" and I'd have to pull them aside and tell them it was ok, we didn't understand her either. The teachers used a note pad to write out stuff when we couldn't get it and half the time it was totally easy stuff. I've met Scottish people I could understand 90% of the time of course, this girl was on the other end of the spectrum though. Sweet girl though.

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm normally good with accents but I've met people I can understand totally - then they talk to their friends from back home in front of me and I'm totally lost ;D

I kid you not.

Wonder if it will understand a kiwi-Aussie hybrid accent?

Most voice recognition software will work better if it carries out a voice test of the user. Otherwise you are in a mess.
My BlackBerry understands voice commands in such a voice tone that when I do so, everyone around me looks at me as if I was nuts. ;D

So PoPo has lost all of her/his longer flight feathers and some of the tail feathers again. Not sure if the vitamin drops have done any good but we are planning on continuing with them till the first molt because it's my understanding that's our best chance of PoPo getting over the French Molt is at the first molt. Supposedly some birds almost fully recover but we are keeping our expectations low and our fingers crossed.
It feels like we've had them for a long time but it's actually only just over 2 months. I'm surprised at how fast the feathers grew back the first time after they fell out. If this is how it's going to be I think we can expect 2~3 weeks of barely flying and 2~3 weeks of flying cycled.
PJ's tail feathers that came out when I stepped on them are coming back as well but he's already such a good flyer. It almost seems like PJ is trying to convince PoPo to go flying together because he'll take off like a rocket do a loop of the apartment and come back and repeat several times hoping all around PoPo who just looks at him like he's a fool.
As you could see about the sexing question I asked it's still up for grabs but I'm pretty sure that PJ is a boy because he sings so much and does a lot of head bopping. PoPo also sings but not nearly as much but I still think PoPo might be a boy. For now I'll just say that they are undecided.

Can't believe it's two whole months, and they are still so very young.

I think time seems longer when you're home with them a lot. I'm stepping out to see my kids who live down the street a bit from me so I set up my secruity camera for the bird cage to check on them when we're not home. My kid's have been pestering their mother to let them get a budgie as well but she doesn't want to take care of a bird, she's more a gold fish type. They'll love the security cam.

A security cam. What a laugh. But a good idea.
