As my shed is used as a shed and to house my budgies and guinea pigs.I have to house my guinea pigs in the shed in the winter!I will not be replacing them once they have died, as the 2 girls are nearly 5yrs old. So hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying this! But I'm hoping that in the next few years I'll be able to convert the shed into a 'birdroom'!

This looks good Gaile I know you said that you were worried of the nest boxes being kicked and droped on the floor so you decided to keep them inside the cages. But it will be difficult to check on the eggs and chicks. Is it possible that you keep the nest boxes between the cages. I mean make some place between both cages. Attache one nest box from the right and one from the left.

There isn't any space to do this! But my plan (no wonder I'm not sleeping) is to build maybe 6-9 breeding cages into this space and making them all have nest boxes on the outside! the shed will then be my budgie shed and no one will be allowed in unless they have permission!

Hello. Nice set up. Just one very minor point you've probably already seen to it. Perch over one of the food pots & perch needed to allow birds to eat/drink. in comfort. Use tube drinkers, more hygienic. Yours B.J.

well I've put the lads in the cages! Bubbles in one and Phoenix in the other! It seems to have upset the aviary members as Bubbles is the boss and Phoenix is his second in command!!! Bella, Bubbles's mate is of course confused to why her mate is in a cage!!!! I've started to give calcium in the water, to help the hens.
when would be the best time to put the girls in with the lads!!

this is the first pair Bubbles and Bella the second pair is Peggy and Phoenix Peggy has a slightly deformed leg but that doesn't stop her in the aviary life!!! Phoenix is a gent of a budgie, very steady.

you would be best off attaching the nest boxes to the out side of the cage ...on the front ....you can do this the same way as iv done mine ...hammer 3 u shaped staples in the nest box and then use cable ties to connect to the cage you will also need to cut out 2 of the cage bars so the budgies can get in and out it sounds alot of work but can be done from start to finish in under ten mins...just hammer 2 staples in the top leading edge .....about five inches apart and 1 in the middle of the leading edge of the bottom ... simples.....and theres no more room needed like this and you get easy access to the eggs/chicks ...and no poo on the box .......i hope this helps ....its well worth doing .... as your cage is all wire theres no need to put staples in the top of your cage...... just cable tie them up at the top but remember to put the bottom staple in the nest box..... as this holds it close to the cage and stops movment ...this is important ....and so easy .....

Are the budgies gonna be okay with those leopards' eyes following them around the cage?

Looks nice Gaile, the only thing i would say is the positioning of the nest box's also the box's appear to open at the top will this not make it difficult to get in and clean them. As you say you are short of room so see how you get on with this method, looking forward to following your thread. Oh and don't count your Budgies ( chickens ) before they hatch where the G pigs are concerned, my daughters rabbit came to stay with us 9 years ago when she had to move into a flat, we still have her, she is 12 and she also shares the Aviary in the winter, she has separate quarters on the ground floor
