Just talking to my Mum (bless her) about this; Sparky is all firm, muscley little body, and feathers flat. Smudge is all soft, fluffy feathers - even when she doesn't want to be touched and is backing away, so it isn't a comfort zone thing. Plus a little layer of fat I do know is there - don't seem to be able to remove the lipomas totally. So ...... why do some budgies seem so soft and fluffy and others are flat feathers and firm. Is it a feather thing, or is it a body thing? BB?

So ...... why do some budgies seem so soft and fluffy and others are flat feathers and firm. Is it a feather thing, or is it a body thing? BB? It’s the feather thing Hezz. Some bird lines have been bred to have longer and softer feathers. Breeders achieve that over a few generations. These are my two birds who have the same size but different feather quality. The one above, has soft and long feathers. But this one's feathers are firm and flat. Keeping in mind his size, it is obvious that he was bred by a show pair but he only took the size of the parents and not their feather quality. His feathers are exactly like the a small wild budgie.
