As snowy lives in our dinning room/kitchen when he comes out for a little fly about he hasn't really got anything to land on apart from his cage, my arm or a stick I clamp onto the side of the kitchen bench so I thought I better make something up for him & the more natural the better so today I managed to get a nice branchy bit of hawthorn (managed to cut myself to bits) The first job was to remove the leafs & all the thorns not just for snowy's safety but ours to. Here it is after being cut Once everything was taken off we didn't want it was give a good clean with the pressure washer before being hand washed & scrubbed in very hot soapy water. After a trim & clean If I get time tomorrow i'll make a start on the base as this is going to sit on the dinning table & if it all go's to plan I shall be making up a couple more for him

Snowy will have a beautiful time on that, well done you! Here is one I made for my budgies. This is the bare bones of it, it now has some sisal rope between some of the branches to add another texture, and some toys and bits of bark hanging for something to chew. And I wrap a piece of newspaper over the base with a little circle cut out for the "trunk" and split to the circle to wrap around the base of the trunk for a tightish fit. Saves having to clean off poop. Unwrap newspaper and replace. I dowelled my little perches into the main part of the tree and used a couple of different types of branches to make the perches, but your hawthorn has plenty of landing spots already.

Well it's now finished & am quite pleased with it going to make up a couple more I think once snowy gets used to it as he was a little scared of it at first but i'm sure he'll get over that as i've left it on the table so he can see it from his cage. And Snowy trying it out for the first time Going to get a couple more toys to hang on the branches as I think our dog might get a little upset if I nick another 1 of her rope toys

That looks so fun! I might try making one for Skye and Daisy for when they're together. Me and Rob have the same problem in that there aren't many places in his flat for the budgies to perch. Skye isn't too bad because she has very strong wing muscles and can fly a lot before having to land. Daisy occasionally has to crash land on the sofa though lol! You could skewer some fruit/ veggies to one of the branches!

Hi Sarah, Snowy isn't the best of fliers at the min but is getting better/stronger but still flies until he is panting I'm going to try & make up a bracket & some sort of fixing so branches can be attached to walls or door frames when needed but easily removed. One thing if you do use hawthorn be careful & wear gloves because I didn't am cut to shreds
