Yes some budgies do change colors from babies to adults. Although Rachael's Dex is recognizable, some do so to an extent that they are not recognizable when compared to earlier pictures.

Hi Hezz, Yes you're right - it was definitely Racheal's Dex! really beautiful colours, I was surprised to see how bright he got!! Speedy is around 10-12 weeks old, he had plain light grey/mauve feathers, I study the budgies quite a bit - to see how they are getting on and stuff, never really expected banding on his belly!! The feathers are nice and even and I can't see any stress marks. I just took the pictures and he definitely has light bands on his body feathers and I also got a shot of some on his rump. Cool or what! Will upload them in a bit

Thank you Hezz, yep - he is lovely as he is, I look forward to seeing him with all his beautiful feathers in place, as he's still missing a few on his wing from when I bought him. Wish I could have had a look at his parents, if I ever wanted to breed him I told myself never to buy budgies from a pet shop again but I saw (her)him standing there looking perfect among the colours - brand new stock from a local-ish breeder. I trust the store staff and their sourcing policies, so I grabbed him instantly, the handler knew a bit too except for their sex as they were too young. I was asking around for a dark eyed clear, waiting for a particular breeder to get back to me, but I just couldn't pass up on him! I was only in the shop for seed - got the budgie to go with it! ;D

Well, seed is no good on its own! I think I would have had to snaffle him too.
