Hi ;D I am planning on breeding two pairs very soon and I want to make sure that I do everything right because their health is very important to me. I wanted to see how others breeding cages are laid out. By that I mean what type of seed and water dishes do you use? What other foods, egg food, supplements, vegetables etc do you have in the breeding cages? Also what do you use as bedding for the nestbox and cage floor? Is newspaper acceptable for the cage floor or could it put the birds off? Photographs would be fantastic so I could see how it is all set up.I have been doing all the research and read Barrie Shutts thread on basic breeding but would like advice from everyone as to how they do it

here is a photo of my mini set up!!! I have the nest boxes inside and standing on perches, as this makes it easier to take the tray out to clean!!! I use news papers on the trays and have wood shavings like I use for my guinea pigs & rabbits, in the nest box! You can put a good hanful in and the hen will sort it, how she likes it!

I provide seed dish all the time, grit, cuttlefish and small dish of egg food! Every day and sometimes evening I give them soft food....chopped veg. I use these, they are great and really cheap too! I bought ten so I have plenty to use and wash !!! They are cheaper from a hard ware shop, I got the smaller ones for 23p each!!! I think they are called sofa carpet coasters!!! In the futue I'm hoping to be able to use built in cages as there is alot of mess and wasted spare with these large cages!!!

I stack my breeding cages on top of each other and pairs can't see other pairs.

Here are my seed and water pots. Vegetables and egg food are provided to the pairs in the feeding pots which come with the cage.

The auto watering is fantastic , every monday i add a water cleanser for two days , this does the birds no harm and thats it

I may buy all wire cages in the future as I do prefer them but for now I have the wood type. I am pairing them up on Monday, decided and sticking to it ;D I will be buying some new iodine blocks and cuttlefish at the weekend plus start making fresh eggfood for them all. Off to read Barries' basic budgerigar breeding through yet again ;D
