Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know that on June 7th at 3am, little Paquita flew to Rainbow Bridge.
I was pretty traumatized at how she left this world. (Oviductal Prolapse) and needed to grieve in my own way, and am currently doing a pastel portrait of her.
She was not fond of the camera. LOL. Whenever I tried taking a picture, she ran away or she turned her back to me. I tried uploading the one good picture I have of her, and it says my file is too big. How can I reduce the size?
A little background history on Paquita:
I found an ad on Craigslist that a couple of budgies needed rehoming back in November 2011. My husband and I set up a meeting and as soon as I saw Paquita I knew she had to belong to the growing gang.
The owners informed me that she and her partner had never been let out of the cage in 4 years, and never been fed anything but seeds and never been handled. I immediately made up my mind that all that would change. Paquita and Paco had never been named, and within a day we had names picked out for them. Paquita was such a chubby budgie from the all seed diet, she weighed 75grams. She was so chubby, her wings didn't lay properly at her sides but were sort of spread out.
I remember being so excited on the ride home and just listened to her chirp and screech. She could've been cussing me for all I cared, I was in 'new-budgie-owner heaven.'
The next few days she progressed in training so much, I just knew that the former owners ahad just not taken the time.
She took to my brother fairly quickly and pretty soon he was the only one who she allowed to hold her without shrieking like a crazy budgie.
Once introduced to veggies and other foods, she was running towards them and lost some of the excess weight she was carrying.
The first time I let her out in the birdroom, my heart sank, she could barely fly and she was out of breath from climbing the cage walls. She was so cheeky with the other budgies, and she was so much bigger than them all that they all hid from her. If she was on a perch, NOBODY else was allowed-oh except for Paco.
As she became accustomed, she slowly lost her diva-like behaviour and started taking a liking to Nieve.
She soon ditched Paco completely and started hanging out with Nieve, poor Paco he seemed confused as to why his long lady love had outgrown him and left him for someone younger.
Paquita grew from a shy, scared, obese, cheeky budgie to a confident, trainable, normal weighted, less diva like budgie in the span of a short few months.
Paquita was only with us from Nov 28 2011-June 7 2012 but boy was she loved and cared for. Every budgie I take in and provide a new home for, I promise them that it'll be their last permanent home filled with happy experiences, lots of flying room and time and yummy foods.
I found this poem online, it is an adaptation of the original poem "When tomorrow starts without me" by David Romano. It touched my heart.
WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME,
AND I'M NOT THERE TO SEE,
THE SUN WILL RISE AND FIND YOUR EYES,
ALL FILLED WITH TEARS FOR ME
I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVED ME,
AS MUCH AS I LOVED YOU.
AND EACH TIME YOU THINK OF ME
I KNOW YOU'LL MISS ME TOO.
BUT WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME,
PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND,
AN ANGEL CAME AND CALLED MY NAME
AND I STEPPED UP ON HER HAND.
SHE SAID MY PLACE WAS READY
IN BIRD HEAVEN FAR ABOVE
BUT THAT I'D HAVE TO LEAVE BEHIND
ALL THOSE I DEARLY LOVE
IF I COULD RELIVE YESTERDAY
EVEN FOR A LITTLE WHILE
I'D FLY OVER AND KISS YOU
JUST TO SEE YOU SMILE
SO WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME
DON'T THINK WE'RE FAR APART
FOR EVERY TIME YOU THINK OF ME
I'M RIGHT THERE IN YOUR HEART.
