My little flock is expanding . I saw 4 really cute budgies at the local G. centre today, i would have loved to get all 4 but i don't have the room or the money (they where £18 each - usually they're £10-16 in my area) i decided to get two of them, one is a Yellow face blue, the other i think is a sky blue spangle but i think it's also crested, they're both male i think (didn't get a proper look, but the breeder who brought them in said male for both and they also looked male to me in the quick look i had) . The other two i liked where a lutino and a normal blue both hens, but i didn't get them. Im picking the males up tomorrow . Now to clean out the quarantine cage .

they are sooooo cute . pics to come, so far the crested one seems to be very VERY cautious and careful, where-as the yellow face is the complete opposite and just dives in. Iv'e been using millet to try and get the to come to my hand it's been working a treat, the yellow face was the first to take it from me and after about (literally) ten minute the crested one took some aswell. They both have the lightest of tweets. They're enjoying the bigger cage though, 20 minutes after i put them in they where flying around for a good bit, they're wasn't much space in the cages at the garden centre. They're both really curious and in the 3-4 hours iv'e had them they're made good use of the toys and twigs i put in. They've settled in a lot quicker than the other birds iv'e gotten previously, i only took them about a hour to find the food and a half hour later to get a drink. I forgot to ask they're age but they seem quite young, they're still got that black tip to they're beaks, they're eyes are still pure black, and they're both got purplish ceres, they're not blue yet - they just generally look young. . Im quite pleased because the yellow face mutation isn't all that common round here (infact not many " fancy" mutations are) and the crested is very uncommon for round here (at-least i think he's crested) Also i think im going to call "the crested one" Gizmo and im not quite sure for the yellow face yet, i was thinking gadget but iv'e gone of that name now.

Definitely a beautiful Crested Male The Yellow Face Sky Blue looks like hen to me. ye i thought that once i got it home, i suppose it wont matter too much though . They both certainly acted liked hens, when they where caught they had a strong bite and where very squawky. Usually something a hen would do, but the crested one is definitely male and he done the same - maybe they where just in a bad mood . If they did turn out to be male and female what are the chances they are from the same clutch? (they're both from the same breeder). Would it be risky to breed them together in the future?.

And keeping numbers down as much as possible is a must. But i think i might track down the breeder and see if he has any more crests. Whoever he is i don't think he's a show breeder, the birds seem too small, although they are ringed. I like the smaller pet type though. How would i go about breeding the yellow face, would i need another yellow face or could i breed it to a normal to get some yellow face chicks?.

It's unlikely that they would be related but better to check with the breeder.
