Ours are doing the same thing but we don't mind except that they sometimes fall into the bay window behind one of them. One thing that I thought would work are these plastic stips that are made to keep pigeons off of your balcony. They are covered with plastic spikes that they can't land on. The plastic is thin enough that you can cut it. We got them for our outdoor planters because birds were landing on them and eating our flowers, it worked like magic but I'm not sure if I personally would use them for our birds even though they are supposed to be safe. You are right, not recommended for pet birds.

Our Macy likes to nibble the curtains too, but since returning from holiday she has stopped doing it, they all still go up on the curtain rail but have left the curtains alone so far, must be a hen budgie thing.

We tried carrier bags, she just stood on them and chewed them. She is not scared of anything. She's up there right now... I have just had another thought, we all know budgies can see vibrant colours and they can see ultra-violet, perhaps you could attract her away with something really colourful ...........worth a try?..........

You are right, not recommended for pet birds. Besides the emotional repsonse of the owner why not?

How about tweaking the curtain every time she goes up there, so that she flies off again? Enough of a tweak to dislodge her. Again, you would have to do it every time she went to perch there. Otherwise I am out of ideas.

The one in the pic does look a little scarier than the one I have which is more like a plastic strip with round sticks on it about an inch in height. They don't actually come to a point but if they were to bang their heads on it I imagine they could poke an eye out. I'm just assuming that they wouldn't do that, if they will then I really have to budgie proof my home better 'cause there tons of stuff that could get them in the eyes.

You can see it in the flesh, so you'll be a better judge. The one in the pic looks like upside down tacks. Maybe it's not as scary as it looks in real life.

Well even that one just looks scary, they are actually non-harmful to birds. We bought them last year before we owned birds and I pressed my hand hard onto it to make sure it was safe. They didn't pierce my skin or anything but they kept birds from eating our plants. I don't have any reason to use them indoors for my birds but I'm keeping the option open because one of their favorite perching spots is right under the air-conditioner (they love eating the wall paper there for some reason) and the other day PJ fell behind into the bay window and started to panic flying into everything and bumping into the windows. If that happens a few more times I think I'll put them up and make sure to tell how it goes but it's really my last choice. Our first choice was to cover the gap with hand towels but they just pick them up and drop them.

I had this issue with my budgie landing on my light fitting. I didn't mind too much but was concerned that they would burn themselves if the light was on. So I wanted them to avoid it. It was/is dificuly because they love it up there. For the last month or so everytime they land on it I shoo them off immediately. It has taken quite some time but it has now got ot the point when they rarely land on it. We even have days when they don't go on it at all.
So my advice would be to just keep shooing her off untill she gets bored of constantly being 'moved on'.

Constantly moving her on, or making her move on (tweaking the curtains) and just making the curtains a too difficult place to be, and eventually she will opt for a more peaceful option......hopefully.

I have been shooing her off constantly and saying "off" loudly when I do it. She is very persistent but I'll keep it up.

The shooing her away didn't help. But we found a solution. We taped together a couple of empty "Rice Dream" cartons and put them on top of the curtain rails so that now there is no space for her to go up and chew on the curtains. Horrah!
