Just wondering what Marianne thinks of the Olympics as she lives not too far from the happening . Haven't watched the whole opening as it was long, I watched til 10.30 and have recorded the rest to watch this evening. I thought it was very good, typically British with humour and history, unique to 'us' . I'm not a sporty person never was (darts and billiards in my youth ) but I really do hope that it goes well, is peaceful and a real joy and boost for the country. Although I'm sure not everyone will agree

I hate to be a Killjoy but the Olympics is a complete pain for us.
The crowds, the transport, having roads closed off.
I might watch some of it possibly. Not sure yet. Didn't see any of the opening ceremony.

Rowan Atkinson was really funny in Blackadder.

So did my son, BB. I can't stand the man, unfortunately. No I don't like him either, slap stick was never 'me' I did enjoy seeing Bond pick up the Queen and her diving out the helicopter though what a star, how many other head of states (at her age!!) would do that. God bless her ;D ;D I do feel for those living near the venues or commuting, hope my daughter and son-in-law aren't affected too much, they both work in London and travel. My s.i.l. especially, he's at Canary Wharf!

How are you doing, Marianne? I can just not imagine the chaos and confusion around you. It is all quite close to you, isn't it? Bunk down and hibernating for the ten days?

Didn't see any of the opening ceremony. Oh, go on, Marianne. Ya big girl! It's just for two weeks and it's all good fun. Isn't it actually quieter and more village-like with the roads closed? It was here in Sydney when the Games were on.

4 weeks. You forgot about the paralympics.
Oh and they have been mucking about with our transport since 2005 when London won the bid!

It must be a complete nightmare in some respects Marianne so you have my sympathies, bearing in mind if you get one thing happen in London (whether it be protests or such as the Olympics) it must cause such chaos for Londoners and commuters alike. And as for "saving the economy" well.... As Millie said, am sure not everyone will agree
