I've only been aware of show budgies since we got our own, have never seen one in person though. Does size in the budgie world = dominance or is it all about attitude? Could say King Monty rule the kingdom on his attitude alone?

The size of budgies does matter but I would say it is more about attitude. I have a 6 months old hen. She is the smallest in size but rules the flight. Sometimes she will sit near the feeding jar and not allow any budgie to eat, that includes English budgies too.

With my three it is all attitude. No respect for the elder, my hen is boss and was always going to be. The female of the species tends to be the dominant one in most cases that I know. Monty is more the exception than the rule. With him being male, I mean.

Thats cos I only have one girl. She's pretty feisty too! With my three it is all attitude. No respect for the elder, my hen is boss and was always going to be. Too true, Marianne, and Abbie is only a newbie, so Monty had already established himself as ruler of the Marlow clan. ;D

Bluey is my first, but the little darlin' is just too placid to try to establish a pecking order.
He is currently being fed tidbits by Sparky, bless him.

I guess that just like humans some budgies don't want the stress or responsibility of being flock leader It's a thankless task! Bluey is my first, but the little darlin' is just too placid to try to establish a pecking order. He is currently being fed tidbits by Sparky, bless him.

I have always been a behind the scenes worker-ant, rather than the up-front soldier ant or (worse still), queen!!

Me too Hezz. Maybe we should put ourselves forward a bit more. Sometimes I can be brave, but I tend to shrink into the background too much. What would Monty say to that?! Me too Hezz. Maybe we should put ourselves forward a bit more. Sometimes I can be brave, but I tend to shrink into the background too much. I know exactly where you are coming from......but that is really out of my comfort zone.
