Sadly, about 6 days after I lost my precious Princess Belle, I lost Chippy, my very first budgie ever. She was about 6 years old and I strongly suspect she had a tumor growing inside her. She had been gaining weight quickly the last few months I had her and I had taken her to see the vet but was told it was probably weight gain due to overeating because the extra weight wasn't so pronounced as to warrant special concern then, which she did like to do. A few days before she died, I noticed she wasn't using her left leg and made an appointment to bring her in again but on the day she was scheduled to go in, she died in the travel cage about 15 minutes before we were going to leave for the vet. I think she likely had a tumor as I had never had a problem with eggs with her before and her weight gain had started months before so I doubt she could carry an egg inside her for so long. Chippy was a pastel blue with the full body yellowface gene so she looked more of a delicate olive color on most of her body. She had white flights in her wings and was also a graywing. I haven't had much time lately which is why I didn't post about her passing sooner.
My second to report is Nadia. She was one who came to me about 3 years ago as a result of someone having to give away their pets because of an allergic relative coming to live with them. Nadia was yellow with black eyes and she had a big green smudge across her tummy and splotches of green on her wings. Nadia was a bit of a mystery to me because the previous owner told me she was pretty sure Nadia was female, hence the name, but I had doubts the whole time I owned her. As soon as I brought her home, the first of my other birds she formed a bond with was Buttercup, the oldest daughter of Princess Belle. The two of them would sit together on the perch and Nadia would sometimes feed Buttercup and help preen her feathers so that made me assume she was really a he but I never really got over the fact that her cere was more whitish so I continued to have doubts about her gender but then she also made friends with another cagemate, Nate, a grassy green male. They used to play together with the toys and run around the floor of the cage playing tag and would both go to eat at the same time so that really didn't clear things up for me. As she lay dying in my hands I looked her over some more and the coloration of her cere convinced me that she was in fact female, like was originally suspected. The original owner told me that she was about 5 when she gave her to me so that would put at around 8 years when she passed away.
