Disco is just about 6 months old. He lives alone but has lots and lots of attention and is a happy little thing. I have noticed his beak in the past few weeks has become scaly and also his cere. Can anyone tell me if it looks like scaly face and how he can have picked it up when he lives alone? I am attaching a before and after pics - sorry if they arent good Im a newbie - please any suggestions? I am buying some Ivermectin solution to put on his neck to treat this shortly but dont want to treat him if there is no need. Can it harm him if I treat him and he doesnt have scaly face? Thanks and sorry about the pics some of those Google Images are pretty gruesome the poor little things. Judging by the google pics yes I think he does have it though. I dont understand how he's picked it up when he lives alone and has had no contact with other birds for months. I will try the Ivermectin and hope I can cure him, other than the scaly beak he is lively and happy!

I'm no expert but does look like it defo. Like mick said though, easily treated especially in the early stages well done for seeking help for him early. He looks like a right character x

I will try the Ivermectin and hope I can cure him, other than the scaly beak he is lively and happy! dont worry it will cure him 100%... .. its very good stuff..iv used it in the past its great ...just one spot in between the shoulder blades...directly on the skin that bit is very important ... and only 1 spot ...as you can over dose .....which could kill... but please use it as its easy to use and you can practice squeezing out 1 spot on a peace of paper ...... and as for where he got it ... he had it before you got him ... but it dont show up at the first few months ... so he had contact with a bird or a perch ...with scally mites on it ... this is the one you wont .... its 0.1 %...its very important that its ONLY 0.1% just hover over the link then left click the mouse and it will come up .... its the one i used and works great .... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-0-1-IVERMECTIN-FOR-SMALL-CAGE-ORNAMENTAL-BIRDS-MITES-WORMS-LICE-RED-MITE-/190711495518?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item2c674a7b5e

It is scaly face mites. Treat with Ivermectin 0.1 and follow the instruction on the package. Clean and disinfect cage and all the stuff with birds safe disinfectant. Preferably F10SC.

Lol thanks for all your replies - yes he IS a character - we recently lost our other budgie Bailey at 3 years old to a crop infection so I am being extra vigilant with Disco. He likes to get up on the inside of the cage so I can blow raspberries on his belly and hes only 6 months old so hes really tame for his age I think. The Ivermectin you suggested is the one I have ordered and yes I will be really careful with it. The cage will be well disinfected too! I will keep you all up to date and its nice to know so many people are here for advice. Thanks!

Very good advice coming from Mick and I love that last photo! I agree that it looks like scaly face, for the record.

Ok guys I have just given Disco his first dose of Ivermectin 0.1% boy did he hate being picked up! Anyway I THINK I got a spot on there (hard to tell and I didnt want to do it again and overdose him) and gave it a little rub in to make sure it got between the feathers. He seems fine he is playing on top of the cage. The instructions in the box say do it again in a week and then in another week. Anyone know how long it should take and what sort of improvements to look for?
