What has happened to his feet? are those mites? what can i do for him? any meds? or natural herbs for treating it? i have kept him in an isolated cage now. but he's has been with that with other budgies for a month before i noticed. Do u think the other budgies will be affected as well? No vets around, so any suggestions wd be good, ASAP. Attachments:

These are for bigger parrots. For budgies we use 0.1%.

What has happened to his feet? are those mites? Looks like it but it can be something serious. I'll ask Barrie to have a look.

I would treat in the first instance fot scaly mites using ivermection 0.1% and a thin smear of petroleum jelly over both efeet and legs ..................i would also treat the bird for gout just as a preventative measure as the picture is not clear............Gout is a form of Arthritis that occurs when crystals of uric acid form in the fluid surrounding a joint, not only can it affect us humans but our budgerigars can also suffer . Budgerigars can be affected with gout which appears as a cream coloured shiny multiple swellings
pushing up beneath the skin. The bird will be in a lot of pain as it affects the joints of the lower legs and eventually they will become crippled.
Cherries have been shown to lower the levels of uric acid in the blood which is one of the most common causes
of gout pain and new research has uncovered evidence that compounds in cherries help to relieve the pain
caused by this affliction and other forms of arthritis.
Offer your budgerigars cherries as part of their diet and when they are not in season supply black
cherry concentrated juice in their drinking water, not only will this prevent gout it will offer a cure.
Cherry juice gout relief has been used around the world in the
treatment of this painful disease for hundreds of years, but it is only recently that the mainstream media has
brought this information to light.

Don't forget to treat your other birds as well, plus you'll have to scrub out their cage, perches and toys.
