Quick fill in - Fluoro and Misty came from the same place nearly four weeks ago, and I think Fluoro may have had scaly mites on his legs, with some small slightly raised whitish lumps that I only noticed a few days after I got them home. Both he and Misty have been given the three-week, once a week treatment (Misty had I thought one of this little lumps), the last being yesterday.
Firstly, if Fluoro still seems to have one or two of these lumps (others seem to have disappeared) should I continue to dose him (and Misty?) until they disappear?
If the answer to that question is yes, then that will mean I keep them quarantined, until these lumps go?
If they are deemed to be mite-free, having had the three treatments, how long after the last treatment should I leave them before introducing them to the other two, who have had one preventive dose?
Quarantine is supposed to finish tomorrow, but that can easily wait.

hezz if it were me id do them for another 3 weeks and all your other budgies aswell...plus dont forget to disinfect every thing .. but having said that id chuck away and replace ......
there cuttle bone/iodine blocks/ and wooden perches as the mites burrow into these ...
id do this bit on the last day of Quarantine ...
id just like to be 100% there fully recovered.... and 100 % free from the mites...

I cannot see the lumps going immediattly if at all , these are caused by burrowing mites that leave a minature mole hill on the birds face and legs , if you used scatt or ivermectin 0.1% two treatments spread over two weeks will have killed all of the mites.....................follow Micks advice also hezz

Thank you Barrie. Only trouble I see is that what is available here is 0.08% not 0.1%. The recommended dose from different sources has been: 2 drops at a time for 3 weeks; 1 drop for 4 weeks. I have gone first week - 1 drop, second week - 2 drops, third week - 1 drop, fourth week - 2 drops. The whitish lumps that first got my attention have definitely gotten better, but not totally gone, so do you think I am still on the right track? With this being mites? Luckily the beak and cere seem clear.

Okay, then. Thanks Barrie. They should be dead then even though our concentration is not as high as that which you have available. How long after the last dose can I mix these birds with the others?

I think Barrie has perhaps misread your dose as being higher than 0.1%, Hezz. He's not seen the extra zero (ie. 0.08% versus 0.8%)

I think Barrie has perhaps misread your dose as being higher than 0.1%, Hezz. He's not seen the extra z% ero (ie. 0.08% versus 0.8%) you are correct Hezz as we have 0.8% in the Uk, carry om Hezz you are doing the right thing

Well, what is the next thing for me, please, Barrie? They have had these doses I have mentioned, and the others have had one as a preventative. Should I keep them separate for now? If so, for how long? Should I give another dose when the week is up? I feel that any residual spots/lumps would be more scar tissue than active infestation? I was adamant I be given the concentration of the ivermectin when I went looking, which won me no friends, but who cares, the birds are more important than someone's ego! And then checked this with the vet when I had poor dog in with his tick. It seems that 0.08% is the common concentration here in Australia. i would hate to think what ten times that concentration would be like!
