There has been no improvement this morning and in fact the clicking is louder and he seems to be gasping more Is this a sure sign that the first dose of Ivermectin didn't work and I'm good to use the other?

There has been no improvement this morning and in fact the clicking is louder and he seems to be gasping more Is this a sure sign that the first dose of Ivermectin didn't work and I'm good to use the other? This is not a direct answer to your question, but here is what Barrie says about where to put the med: Sometimes upon careful inspection and the use of a light source on the side of the neck you may even see the mites as tiny black spots under theskin and located along the trachea, (depending on how bad the infestation).Place a healthy drop of Ivermectin directly upon this area and hold the bird until the Ivermectin has absorbed.Remember the rubber gloves! Do this once every two weeks for a total of three treatments in infected birds.
This will help to kill mites in the larva, and egg stage, that may not be affected by the first application.Placing Ivermectin under the wing or back of the head will only slow the eradication process down as it has to absorb into the blood stream and then be carried to the area of infestation
.\Prepare a clean cage (clean thoroughly with vinegar and water and left in the sun to dry) Ivermectin to be used for birds should have 1% sterile solution obtainable from your Vet.Horse wormers contain 1.87% of Ivermectin, which would be too strong for birds.

What is the strength of the pipette spot-on that you are using? It may be that it is of a lower concentration that what we would normally apply. Of course we are all only guessing ........ if he is getting worse and a vet visit is out of the question, I don't see an alternative to giving him another dose ............

In each dose there is 10ug/0.01mg which from research I believe is quite low?

Is that per pipette? How many mls per pipette? I don't know how you could convert that without knowing the contents of the pipette. The recommended dosage for mites is an ivermectin solution of 0.1%, applying one drop. I think the safest thing to do is to get the correct concentration of ivermectin online and then we would not be guessing. I would hate to do a mis-conversion and tell you something wrong.

What do you suggest, Barrie??? You have had more experience with this sort of thing than probably the rest of us put together. Ivermectin 0.1% ( not any other brand) 2 drops on the outer crop wall , this will kill most of the mites , your bird then needs to cough up these dead mite or it will not be able to breathe , repeat after 5 -7 days ........disinfect cage and contents also

That did help Barrie thank you However I gave him another dose of Ivermectin and it again had no effect, I asked my lecturers at College (Ex vet nurses) and they gave me Baytril 2.5% as they believe it is a respiratory infection rather then mites, I've given him the first dose and now I'm waiting until the morning to see how he does! If there is no improvement I'm taking out a payday loan and taking him to the vet Thank you for all the help
