We have a green woodpecker too Skysmum, you can aleays tell when he's around with the strange call he makes! And I like the English Robins too - we have one near here that I can stand and whistle right next to and he will whistle back! He is so brave this little one, I just wish I had a handful of mealworms to give him As for Bruise sounds like he is a real Bruis-er! Love the story of how he came but that name too ;D hope he does have a new clutch!

Maybe you need to go shopping, Sam? I am sure in the middle of winter Mr Robin would be happy for an easy meal. As for Bruise, he has plenty of hens to sweet-talk. It probably depends more on whether the summer stays mild, although where they nest is always lovely and cool.

Oh, c'mon ......... share the lurrvvve. ;D Why are they so expensive? ;D Oh god you do make me laugh Hezz!!!! ;D As for why the are so expensive, think its because they are "live food" and I wouldn't want to give him so dried up crusty dead ones!!! The say you can soak them but would prefer to give him some real protein

Years ago a guy where i worked at the Uni used to get the Robins to come and take them from his hands, it would take a few weeks to gain its confidence but once he had he just used to go to the Robins patch and call "come on then" and it would appear, its a lovely thing to do. And ive often got one singing to me gently right where im working in the garden, love them.

How lovely, Skysmum. Must be something else to get that response, although I don't think it would take too much more to get the wrens doing similar. In just a week they were hanging around my feet sometimes, and that wasn't a concerted effort.

Isn't that wonderful Skysmum! It gives you such a buzz doesn't it? I have heard that the robins in France are not as tame as the ones we get in the UK...I wonder why that is?
