Thanks Hezz - exactly what I was thinking. She seems to be quite unconcerned really and even chirping more to make up for the lack of Benny's noise - unless she's calling for him! Who knows what goes on in a budgie brain?! I must admit I wouldn't know how to go about quarantining a new budgie as I don't have a second cage! We'll see how she goes, though my husband was convinced it was nicer for the two of them to have each other, once we'd done it for the first time.

If you do decide to get another, a small cage will be necessary. It is always handy to have a spare, what with vet visits etc, and it doesn't have to be large. Simply keep the new bird separate (rooms apart) from Frankie for a month. It is a good time to get the new bird stepping up and a little more used to you before introducing it to Frankie.

OK, thanks for that. Frankie seems quite content on her own at the moment - I'm calling her the Merry Widow!

So sorry to hear about poor Benny I am no expert but due to my budgie Beauty being ill and having runny poo and was like benny sitting fluffed up and sleepy it was down to worms but once she was wormed (by the vet )and given antibiotics she got better so just as a precaution I would disinfect all the cage out incase it could have been worms and you dont want to pass them onto Frankie .

Thanks Julie - Frankie seems fine and has had a good clean out - hopefully anything like that would have been passed on by now and she would already be ill? The vet said to come straight back if she showed any signs of illness. He sent me a very nice condolence card too!
