Poor Beau in the aviary has been looking all fluffed up and not very active for a couple of days and the other day I realised his bottom had a lot of poop stuck to it. I cleaned him up and put him back into the flight hoping that it was just because he'd eaten too much veg and it had made his poop runny. They haven't had any veg since and his vent is all clogged up again and he just sits there looking sorry for himself so I have brought him inside, but into my conservatory where hopefully it will stay cool enough for him to be able to go back into the aviary. I have put him in a breeding cage from the aviary and just given him trill and water with guardian angel in it. I'm giving him an hour or so to settle in then I am going to clean his vent again and try to get him to have a bath in luke warm water. I'm unsure whether the guardian angel will be anough though, I have baytril left from when one of my hens was ill, I put it in the fridge, and wondered if it was worthwhile giving him that instead. Also he has lost weight, I can feel his breastbone.
Sorry for the ramble but my main questions are:
What could be the cause of a clogged up vent?
Should I stick with the guardian angel for three days or scrap that and treat him with baytril?

They have been doing, not every day though but today was their last day. The flight will have everything removed, cleaned, and stored away for the winter.
What causes kidney disease and what are the treatments for it?

the vent becomes blocked and the build up danages the kidneys , i have never cured one Rachael ...........apply a thin smear of vaseline to the area an dtrim the vent feathers to help stop any sticking

He doesn't seem much different today, the only plus is that his poops have changed overnight from mostly white splattered poop to a pile of normal little poops where he is sat. He doesn't seem to have eaten any seed though :/ I'm trying to decide if i should puths cage somewhere a bit warmer but then i am worried that if he gets well enough to go back to the aviary that the drop in temperature alone would kill him. I'd happily keep him in over winter but that's really not an option

Update: I have moved Beau into the dining room where it is warmer. He has been eating a millet spray this afternoon but hasn't touched the seed in the bowl. I can't see how his vent is without picking him up so I'll be doing that in the morning. He still seems fluffed up but its hard to tell with him because he is such a big feathered budgie x

When she was in the aviary, was it totally covered in or could wild bird poop drop into the aviary? I personally would treat for worms, as at least you are giving the poor bird another chance. Worm treatment is available from the pet shop and will take a few days before it takes effect. Hope she recovers well!

There was no chance of wild bird poop getting into the aviary He is on guardian angel for now but once he's had that for a few days i will give him worm treatment, i already have some x

Could be Julie ..................a sick bird needs a temperature in the high 80s Rachael Crumbs i didn't know it had to be that high, very useful to know Barrie, and does this have to be a gentle progression of heat or can you just go from being cold to that temp. I hope little beau rallies Rachael.
