Smudge: Sky Blue (recessive pied ....... correct me if I am wrong) Misty: Cobalt spangle Now What Was Bluey??? This probably the best showing of his colour. Between his wings/ top of tail was a deep lilac, if that helps.

Bluey was a Mauve budgie, if the color was as dark as in this picture.

We get different shades of blue or green in budgies because all the budgies have some level of DARK FACTOR. It ranges from no DARK FACTOR, to ONE DARK FACTOR, or to TWO DARK FACTORS. Even Albinos and Lutinos have DARK FACTOR present but it is unknown due to no color in body feathers.
Wild budgies have NO DARK FACTOR, that’s why we only see Light Green budgies in the wild.
Fundamentally, what DARK FACTOR does is to darken the blue or the green color in the body feathers. So here is how it affects the Green and Blue budgies.
A yellow-based Green budgie with NO DARK FACTOR will be very light or bright green. It is referred to as Green or Light Green budgie.
A yellow-based Green budgie with ONE DARK FACTOR will look dark green. It is referred to as Dark Green budgie.
A yellow-based Green budgie with TWO DARK FACTORS will look deep olive or dull green color. It is referred to as Olive budgie.
Similarly…
A white -based Blue budgie with NO DARK FACTOR will look lighter sky blue. It is referred to as Sky Blue budgie.
A white -based Blue budgie with ONE DARK FACTOR will look normal blue and darker than sky blue. It is referred to as Cobalt budgie.
A white -based Blue budgie with TWO DARK FACTORS will look very dark in color. It is referred to as Mauve budgie.
Remember…
Violet has nothing to do with DARK FACTOR. Violet factor is a color adding factor and even green budgies can have violet factor but it is very hard to tell. The violet usually darken the green a little and violet tinge can been seen sometimes. Sky Blue budgies will also have a violet tinge. However, the violet color truly shows on Cobalt budgies.

Bluey was a Mauve budgie, if the color was as dark as in this picture. I think the photo is a very good representation of his colour, BB. In quite a few photos he shows up grey, but that's definitely not his true colour. Mauve, eh? I do prefer to think of him as lilac

Sam, I think sometimes the photos don't show up the differences terribly well, or show a bird one colour in one photo and another in the other. Photos can lie.

Looking at that photo, I see what you mean, but she isn't really. Symetrical, I mean! Her splotches really are all over the place, and even her black marking are usually asymmetrical. Must have caught her on a good day!
