There are classes for opalines and normals BB , because we use opalines to improve the spots we often get opaline markings on the normals. So an opaline bird can participate in an opaline category and can win, but a normal bird with opaline markings is a fault. It is called "opalescence ". This is correct BB

Hello Barrie, Superb thread this one, and always say, you simply can not buy experience, and you have it by the bucket load my friend, although i kept budgies , lets say a wee while back I can honestly say still have loads to learn, and guess you never stop learning Still cant see past my "Lutinos" great passion for them, and will continue to persevere , with this variety. Going on an other Budgie road trip this weekend, hopefully to find that "Super Pair" or two , birds i have at the moment, in my humble opinion are lets say "Fair" and of course could be improved, that's the challenge! will post some pics of the new birds, just waiting on one of those photo Cages, then would be obliged if everyone could give me an honest opinion ......(Leaving myself wide open on this one .......Been a long shift today, aircraft engines can be a pain sorry to go on here! must be the "Budgie Fever" again ;D Regards.......Ben. PS .....Forgot to add would of course be better if it was my own bred birds , i was sharing pics of ! but hopefully soon! Welook forward to seeing the pictures Ben

The bird above don't have spots so it cannot be shown. You managed to get spots on this bird but this one cannot be shown as well because of flecked head. Are both statements right?

It took me a while to understand this point Long way to go still

The following are faults or defects which should be penalised by the judges according to the judges opinion of the severity of that fault or defect. Condition is essential. If a bird is not in condition it should be penalised.Perfect show condition is defined as a bird that is complete in feather showing the bloom of good health and good preparation. Long flighted. No bird showing long flighted characteristics is eligible to take any award. Scaleyface.Any bird showing any sign of scalyface must be removed from the show bench on the instruction of the judge.Any bird showing signs of sickness must be isolated away from the show hall. flecking is defined as any dark marks ( flecks or grizzle) on the crown or frontal of the head. The standard for every variety denotes the frontal and crown must be clear and free from all markings and these markings should be severely penalised. From 2009 flecking will be considered a major fault on the show bench.
