thx BB. yes she is doing well so far. could you give me any hints on telling if she gets distressed with trying to cope further down the line? ie, not being able to feed them all properly if all 8 hatch ? Thanks

Thanks If all the eggs hatch, she can possibly stop feeding the youngest one or two chicks because she will not be able feed all of them. So what would I do in this situation... 1: Foster out a few chicks to another pair with similar age of chicks. 2: If no where to foster out, I would either pull the elder ones at 21 days old and completely hand feed them. Or help the hen by feeding the elder ones twice a day and putting them back with the hen. There are a lot of hand feeding videos on YouTube. Temperature is very essential. Best of luck

just looked in the nest box and got a nice xmas present - the oldest chick has died I don't quite understand how because his crop is full and he'd started growing fluffy feathers. the other 3 appear to be doing good. Could he have suffocated somehow? the crop appears full of milk - can't see any seed in there. I'm not going to post a pic of it cos I think it's too much for people to see

yes, thanks mickmay. thats the 2nd lss from the same clutch - allbeit the first was a murderous cock who was removed immediately. this is my first clutch/attempt at breeding them and so i'm as new to this as Emy herself (her first breed too). she is feeding the others ok and coping well. i think it just got too cold. let's hope the rest can stay alive and prosper Merry Xmas.

evening, she's still doing well, I cleaned out the few eggs that hadn't hatched last night and put fresh shavings in the nestbox - here is a pic of the mighty 3 that are left any ideas on colouring of the 2 older ones yet or is it still too soon to tell? thanks.

when can the hen start feeding seed to the chicks? i know that they start eating seed on their own at 5-6 weeks but will the hen feed them seed before that? thanks.

been a while since my last post - sorry I have 3 well grown chicks but i have a slight problem (at least I think I do). The eldest chick refuses to leave the nest box, he is now 36 days old and the hen this evening resorted to pulling him out of the nestbox and is at present showing him the feed bowls and water trays etc. but he's intent on going back into the nestbox and keeps trying to fly back up to it - about a 2 foot high climb. he has managed to get back into the nestbox - a struggle but he did it. emy immediately pulled him back out and pushed him off the perch onto the floor. Is this normal? how soon could I take him out of the cage and put him with another bird? or isolate? thanks guys. i'll post some pics and maybe a video if i can.
