He does, doesn't he? I wonder how much of that he will lose as he moults? He reminds me rather of Abbie, and she had that banding across her head all her life. There is a name for it, but I am drawing a blank from the grey cells at the moment.

In a way I hope he doesn't lose it as I think it makes him look like a little ruffian! All adds to the charm! I didn't realise there was a name for it? Is it part of the pied? I hope you do remember

I hope you do remember It isn't (as far as I know) part of being pied, just that their new feathers still carry over some of the baby bars. It isn't considered "beautiful" in the show breeding world, tut tut, .......... Maybe BudgiesBuddy knows what the term is for this ..........

Its called flecking i think, off the top of my head. A few of my aviary budgies have it but i think it just adds to their character

I totally agree Rachael Kellett I think he looks even cuter for it Was going to say the only reason I asked if it was part of the pied is that I have seen it predominantly on pied budgies Hezz but that was only a guess!

Oh that is wonderful news. I need some of what you are doing ... carrot doesn't go down well here either. Really! My budgies LOVE carrot, and I mean LOVE it! And corn, broccoli, milk thistle, lettuce (rarely) are ALL FAVORITES! Apples not a huge hit, but they still like it. Nicola

Nicola I don't think he had any fresh food before I got him, so it takes time for him to come round to new tastes - but we have made great progress! Still shreds the carrot but taking the occasional bite too. Funny but he doesn't mind apple. I do think it is the colour though, anything orange sets him off He has HUGE rows with his mirror that has an orange frame, but docile with his wooden mirror - such a little character.

I think you are right, Rachael. I thought of every other word it could be ...... couldn't think of flecking. Marianne's Abbie was the one who most comes to mind with this; she had quite a lot. Smudge has a bit ....... if you can see it through the rest of her dirty face.

Can totally see what you both mean now, and it may be not considered "beautiful" in the show world but I think we can ALL agree that it makes them look even more fetching
