After a few weeks of going back to a being a normal budgie after the general vet appointment. Billie has started to display some strange behavior when we go to play with her.
She is very unhappy if you touch her left side above her leg. Billie goes to 'bite' your finger in a bid to say 'don't touch that area!' and screams/yells at you. I have also noticed her droppings are not quite right, sometimes just 'sitting' there ready to drop.
Billie is eating normally, however she likes to sit there doing nothing and sometimes sleeping during the day longer than normal. So I have rung up the local avian vets this time, however I cannot get Billie in to see them until Monday afternoon. If there is any change in her, I can ring them back up and get in sooner.
I will update you sometime on Monday. Which is a busy day of back to work, lunch take Billie to the vets then I have the dentist also that afternoon.

Sorry to hear you're worried about Billie - hope you can get some useful advice from vet. I share your feelings about combining work with vet visits!

Been to the avian vets. Well using old pictures billie turns out to be a boy! Well did think we had a boy budgie. Oh and he is 2 years old, so was. 6 months old when we got him.
We decided to have an X-ray done to see if there was a tumor. After a long wait the X-ray shows that there is a tumor on the left hand side. Been given painkiller to give twice a day and baytril in water daily.
If this treatment doesn't work ie quality of life doesn't improve to go back and put to sleep. Or if painkiller works to keep giving it him.
No wonder he's sleeping most of the day and trying to bite your finger if you went near that area. Poor little mite suffering from a common illness. Will see how it goes.

Thanks, he's had some painkiller this morning, plus yesterday. Needs it twice a day.
He has been as bright as a button; playing, whistling/chirping and running up and down the peaches,no morning nap at all. I think he's warn out, now having a nap. Out for the count zzzzzzzzzz. That 7am until 1:30pm wide awake, alert and playing. Usually has a morning nap and then a shorter lunchtime nap.

Sorry, Beth, that the news wasn't better. I do hope the pain-killers work to give Billie the release he needs.

Well to update this thread. Never really made it back to the vets after the last time in April. He was a little bit livelier up to last week (without any meds) On weds billie went through 1 lot of fresh water, to the fact mum had to put more in and he seemed quieter than usual. Thursday he went very quite again, sleeping on and off. Then yesterday morning the little sausage decided to be sick after eating his breakfast just has I was about to go out the door. He had not really eating by lunchtime so I had managed to get him to the vets, sent back home with some meds. Both last night and this morning he (after some perseverance) he took the meds the doctor gave, along with almost a full bottle of water (with baytril in) and a little bit of food. Tonight's medication time was a performance. Billie has decided that he doesn't want that medicine, so in the end after about 10 minutes of sitting there encouraging him, I put him back in the cage. Have tried the medicine again with the same result, so not sure what to do tomorrow, maybe try him again in the morning? Hes being a little 'drama king' trying to escape away from the lovely medicine hehehehe. Looks like he just wants to be out of his misery instead of staying around with a tumor. Vets said if there's no improvement by Monday to take him back (not sure how to manage that when I have to be at work by 8:45am with the vets opening a little bit earlier than that) so they can treat him or possibly put to sleep. He has also lost 2gs in weight in 2 months. Will try to keep you updated on the 'drama king' called billie

Beth, you are the one who can make that call. You know if Billie still has any quality of life - from your post it seems he is still enjoying life, but maybe I have misread it. I hope the vet is able to help you come Monday. Take care, you two.
