Hi everyone Just a quick question. I am thinking about getting the green hagen vision cage single height at the end of the year and I am wondering how easy it is to get things inside the cage through the external opening near the seed containers. Pics would be good I know it's a strange request, but I am thinking about using it as a breeding cage and I would attach a vision nest box on the outside so both front doors wouldn't be able to open so I need to know how easy it would be able to replace little things like cuttlebone through that opening. Also, for people who have the green hagen vision cage single height, do you think it would be big enough to use as a breeding cage with the box on the outside? Or would the red single height one be better? Thanks in advance, Nicola

I have a Hagen vision cage and I can put small flat dishes between the bars in the lower half of the cage from the low doors. I didn't try to do anything else but I think it would have been difficult. They are really just designed to put the food/water dishes in. I don't have any knowledge about what is involved in breeding, but I think you would struggle if that was your only access to the cage.

This one is too tall. Go for a wide one instead

Thanks BB Which one do you think I should go for then? I want a vision cage because mum always complains that they make too much of a mess inside so having the debris guard is what we need. I was also thinking about the red single height or the green single height, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to have proper acsess to the inside of the cage as I said before. The red double height would be too big. Do you think the red single height would be alright? I would only need to be able to add or replace cuttle bone, mineral block extra. Would this be alright? The dimensions are: 75cm L x 38cm W x 54.5cm H Nicola

Just measured the size of the red single height. It's bigger than I need and costs $80-$100 so I might go the green single height which was the one I was looking at originally. The dimensions are: 60.9cm L x 38.1cm W x 52cm H Nicola

I don't think you will need to change the cuttle fish or the mineral block while the birds are breeding and raising the chicks. They last a long time and if they are big enough should be fine to leave them. If you do need to change them for any reason you should be able to do it through the seed pot holes. They are quite big and I adjusted a toy through one the other day. It wasn't the most comfortable of jobs but I did manage.

Phew! Thanks. So do you think the green one would be big enough to use as a breeding cage?

I don't know much about breeding, haven't done it yet. Apparently a good size is 24 inches x 18inches x 14 inches.

You can always wrap a six inch strip of transparent plastic sheet around the cage towards bottom to stop the husk and feathers falling on the ground. I don't know much about these cages as these are not available here, but I do know that the wider, the better

I have the vision large normal height and it's great for two birds. Lots of room. Clean and easy.

Thanks everyone By looking at the cage dimensions, do you think the green one would be big enough for a breeding cage? Im just worried that if we get any chicks (fingers crossed) will it be too crowded when they leave the nest? Nicola

The green cage is 24inches x 15inches x 20.5 inches so it probably has about the same amount of room inside the cage as any other breeding cage.

24 inches x 15 inches x 20.5 inches is an acceptable size for a breeding cage, provided that the nest box is attached from outside.
