Hi everyone, I'm Charlie. I live in the East coast area of Kent with my little girl and we are hoping to welcome a new feathery little member to our family in the near future.
I had two budgies as a child, Suzi and Bobbi. Suzi died when I was a very small little girl, but we had Bobbi for a good few years after that. Sadly after being a proper part of the family for years, his cage got knocked over by accident and the dog attacked him :-( It was so sad and I didn't want another one after that as it was too hard.
Now I've got my own little girl and I'm a stay at home Mum, I'm ready to have another budgie and hope I can get some handy tips from some other forum members :-)

Hello Charlie and welcome. This forum is great for advice, support and a bit of fun. I have found out so much about looking after budgies since getting my two and joining here. Very sad what happened to your old budgie but it was an accident and its great that you and your daughter are going to get a budgie together now.

Welcome to forum Hope you have a breeder nearby, as pet shops are not a preferable option to get a budgie.

Welcome to forum Hope you have a breeder nearby, as pet shops are not a preferable option to get a budgie. Thank you. Yes you are absolutely right, there are a couple on the breeders list which are not too far to travel. I do feel sorry for the poor birds that I see crammed in to the pet shop cages and when I was looking at cages the other day I wanted to rescue them all! They all looked so sad :-(

Your daughter will love a little budgie - how old is she? She is only 2, but she absolutely adores animals. Obviously our new family member will b mine & I'll just let her help me with little things like changing water & food etc, but I think it's important to teach children respect for animals at a young age :-)

They are never too young to learn respect for animals. She sounds a lot like my daughter, who also has loved animals from a very young age and always been super gentle with them (even when she was really little).

Sorry not to welcome you before, Charlie. I have been away and trying to catch on everything but it all takes time. I am sure you, your daughter and your new budgie will all be firm friends in no time.

She has been helping me look at cages already and was staring quietly for ages at the birds in the pet shop. She is very good with my Mum & Dads dog and her cousins hamster, so I'm pretty confident she will be fine
