Weve just spent three lovely days at the coast and ive got a lovely bag of cuttlefish which i always wash well and soak in a vinegar solution before drying. I have also collected some beautiful pieces of driftwood, i would love to use these as perches for the buds but because im not sure which trees they come from im hesitant , i have seen driftwood perches for sale though, any ideas.

The problem with driftwood, as you said, is you don't know what type of wood it is.

Mmmm, i always thought driftwood was pretty sterile and would be free of anything harmful, especially once its been baked in the oven for good measure. I wont take a chance's, they will make lovely additions to the garden anyway

However, if we make a mistake we end up with a calamity on our hands, and would be forever kicking ourselves. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

I would think that any sap or toxins that a tree may contain would be long gone in driftwood. The sea, salt and sun would surely have destroyed anything harmful.
