Did you breed the dad? I was wondering as if he is producing blue y/f chicks with a non y/f hen, then dad must actually be a type 2 y/f blue although you'd never know from that deep yellow he is!

Unfortunately i didn't breed him so i have no way of knowing what his parentage is! i purchased him two years ago and he has been waiting to be a daddy ever since! Mum is a homebred she is a cinnamon so her blue colour is diluted to a pretty lilac colour!

I suppose he could be yellow and split for blue to have blue chicks, but to have a yellow face chick makes me think he could be a very yellow blue series bird lol! I have a yellow face albino thats turned such a rich yellow shes almost looking like a lutino. I'm not sure if yellow face could skip a generation. I've not heard of it before.

I have given up trying to fathem out genetics! lol My birds choose their partners and as a rule I go with it unless it's to close in relations! if you know what I mean! and then I see what they through out colour wise! exciting to see the colours emerging on them all!

I can't get my brain to do the work of understanding genetics, but I have a question about the dark coloured beak on Emma and a little bit on Rio. Is this a baby thing or will they always have this?

I let mine choose their partners too. I used to like the surprise colours but then got obsessed in finding out how they came about lol

Love the top photo. Rio certainly is a beauty, but I do love Emma in all her baby cuteness.

Rio has all the characteristics of a beautiful budgie. Loved the discussion on pair outcome
