I have been thinking about getting some window perches for the buds as they absdolutely LOVE sitting near our window and looking out to the big wide world. After seeing that Sweetpea has some and upon searching for them (pic below): I was HORRIFIED about how much they cost! So after obtaining the thinking cap and placing it on one's head, I have decided to try and make my own for a cheaper cost. Turns out I have not had the first original idea (oh well!) but have found that other bird fanatics have advised that aquarium tubing is the safest material to use for birds and aquarium shops provide strong suction cups too. So I thought I would share this idea with those of you (like me) who are on a budget and/or are a bit crafty and enjoy making things - I shall let you know if I fail or succeed. Any tips, or ideas would be useful too!

That is a GREAT idea. We have 4 of those perches, but I bought 2 of them in the States where they are considerably cheaper. Ridiculous how expensive they are. Good luck with making them, I'd be very interested to see how you get on. Hob and Millie LOVE these.

GOOD THINKING Sam!I have also been put off by the cost of these (and my buds taking MONTHS to adopt new perches) but I am really interested in how to get perches (plastic or otherwise, I guess) fixed to vertical surfaces without hacking into walls with nails, screws etc. Very interesting ....

Okay, 'fess up, how much are we talking? I can imagine some heavy duty tubing, sounds like you have sussed this part out, maybe some small plastic connected or interlocking beads to fit inside the tubing, and some heavy duty suction caps ...... and Bob's your uncle! Too easy. It isn't something I have ever really needed as my little guys sit (and s**t ) on my louvres! I can see suction cups working on glass, but for a less smooth surface, like a wall, I don't think they would work.

How well I know that something-new-to-hunt-down-and-make feeling!!! It's GREAT!!! Good luck! I'm off to get a repeat prescription of Hepatosyl for Woody - he seems to be doing well on it.
