lemonade has made a very important point when considering purchasing an air pruifier: room size, so am glad that is sorted! As for the choice of purifier - its sounds perfect for your needs especially because of your asthma and allergies etc. As long as you have something that is competent enough to deal with pet dander and allergies that is ok for your room size I dont think you can go far wrong. If you can invest in a purifier where you dont have to change filters that is even better too. This is the one we chose for the size of our room is quite big

It does sound like a really good choice (I must admit I quite like it too!) But can't afford another really! Especially like the zap and no clean feature. Would you mind giving us an update on it once you have tried and tested it? I would be most keen to know how it performs

Unfortunately some of the options are not yet readily available in Canada. The machines that heat the air to a very high degree are not yet available.

Can I ask why ionizers should not be used with birds? I am getting an air purifier and just wanted to that aspect.

We had this one originally but didn't think it was powerful enough for 4 birds dander or more. However if on a budget and you have less than 4 birds am sure it will be fine! Just something else to be aware of it can be used in rooms up 20m Sq and you will need to buy new filters for it every so often. And cleaning is easy as you hoover the filter and wash the sponge. Hope that helps!

In the bird room I have 2 air purifiers. An airfree, which is magic, absolutely great!
And a dehumidifier with a HEPA filter added, Meaco brand.
The Airfree gives off a mountain-like fresh air, when I come in there in the morning, the diffrence is so easy to feel. I also leave that on all the time, I stop the dehumidifier at night cause of the noise.
That dehumidifer with hepa helps with the humidity, as I have a slight problem, but the hepa filter makes the air smell a bit like hospital. Nevertheless... does the job.
My vote goes for the Airfree though. The only minus of it is that you need some air circulation in the room for it to work best, won't do as good in very large rooms, or unpopulated rooms, or unventilated... I mean, it will work a lot slower cause it sits there waiting for the air yo come to it.
Absolutely great in smaller populated rooms! Works faster.
The famous strawberry test is true, btw. Did it with several fruits, it's true. Also, my budgies are way more alert in that room compared to how they are when moved to another room, even the most lazy ones.
And Airfree will help with dander too, doesn't absorb it of course, but it won't float around in the air, it will just settle on the furniture/floor very fast. Of course, vacuuming often and anti-satatic and antibacterial surface spray will keep everything pristine.
As I plan to move 2 more budgies in the big cage in that room, I'm thinking of getting a GOLDWELL True HEPA to put exactly near the cage. A total of 4 budgies will make more dander than 2.

Dear JJ, For 12.5 m2 is equivalent to 125 sq.ft. Its quite small size. You can use the Blueair 203 with price range from $320 to $340
