My budgies have all been fine during this heat and the bird in question was happily playing last night. This morning I wake to find my hen bird Ben sitting on the perch with her wings spread open and looking very exhausted....the room isn't hot and the windows have been open at all times even at night...she has spent the day on the perch looking shaky and is now on the floor looking like she is about to breathe her last breath....what could it be that has caused this and what, if anything do I do please. I know that budgies open their wings to cool off but all the other birds have not been doing this. All help and advice much appreciated . CLICK ON PICTURE BELOW FOR VIDEO.

she is hot and bothered I'd think. freeze some water in a small pop bottle and put in the cage to help cool the air x

Could Ben have been in a draft? Could she be anxious about something? I don't have an answer for you but I hope everything turns out fine.

Thanks...will do. Do you think the really hot weather over the last few weeks has maybe taken it's toll on her....I have been spraying them to keep them cool.
...one other thing...could she have eggs as she's in with males....just a thought.

Whatever she has I don't think it's got anything to do with the heat....her poos were normal this morning but I just found this underneath her and her vent looks a bit messy so it doesn't look good whatever she has. ..be surprised if she lasts the night poor thing.

This morning I half expected to wake up and find her dead to be honest as last night she didn't look well at all....but I was so surprised to find her on the perch, she had cleaned her vent up and the poos are nearly back to normal...she was cleaning her mate Eric as well and although she still looks tired she's eating and I would say coming back to her normal self...maybe it was something to do with the heat...will keep you updated...thanks for all your good wishes...much appreciated. x PICTURE OF BEN A FEW MINUTES AGO...

Hope it was only the heat. Good job! So do I....you know what really amazed me was how my other female Ruby was trying to help her in a bird sort of way...when Ben was perching she was pushing herself up close to Ben as if to give her some support and kept trying to nuzzle her...I've never seen budgies do this but she obviously felt she needed to help in some way...budgies are amazing creatures.

I saw this type of behaviour from one of mine when my first male was becoming ill from his tumour. Nature may be cruel, but it can be kind as well. So happy for you that Ben seems to have recovered for herself. Maybe she picked up something that didn't agree with her gut. Once it was gotten rid of, things righted themselves ......... quite easy to happen with your extra hot weather, I imagine.

True...that's what I thought. Well she has had some veggies today and looks so much better and back to her normal self...it really has been hot here in the UK so I don't doubt that Budgies are suffering....let's all do a rain dance

....let's all do a rain dance You may regret that if the weather forecast is right. It's the humidity that is worse than the temperature.
