Haha! I bred two pairs of my budgies last year, my first ever try at breeding. Between them they had 8 babies and like you I had a hard time with the thought of letting them go so I kept them all. I have never regretted the decision even though they eat too much and destroy things lol! Oh and I have an aviary if that makes a difference?

Any buds I breed now...I keep. Having given them in the past to people that sounded great on forums and the like, lovely aviarys etc only to find them lose interest within a year or 2, sell them on or worse still a case of very bad neglect. People are not always what they seem on forums and on delivering budgies to some people I realised their forum pics were not exactly telling the whle truth about their set up. I have driven near 150 miles round trip because somebody told me my chick was sick after having her a fortnight only to find she was still in a tiny wooden travel cage on the floor doing quarantine. A well respected forum contributer (not this forum) I wish I had kept all of my first borns, enjoyed them and not bred again until there was space. I remember every one of them. It depends how soft you are I suppose (and I am) and still feel guilty for every one bud that I have passed on to some of the people I did. Keep 'em all unless you have good local friends who if their circumstances change will give them back to you. Lol, but if you're not soft in the head like me then sell them

If my pair ever get their act together and have actual real fertilised eggs I will keep all of them. I have plans for them. One is going to be for my son, one will go in with my caged bird and there is a sad bud with no friend in the aviary (I have 5 buds in there and he seems to get left out) so there will be a few friends for him to choose from. So I need at least 3 but the more the merrier.

Think you have made my mind up for me Nat.. a few months ago my sister in law said she wanted 2 budgies when I bred them but I wasnt happy about her having them because she has. 4 yr old and he is a little bugger and I know he would let them out of the cage. But fingers crossed she hasnt mentioned having them for a while now even though she has seen my photos of my chicks on facebook . I just hope and prey she doesnt say she wants 2 .

I promised chicks to someone before as they were avidly following the 'chick thread' and wanted a couple and then she posted that her budgie had fell down the toilet when the seat was up so I told her my chicks all died lol

To add my two cents worth, I wouldn't be able to part with any. I KNOW I would become too fond of them, and have even thought about limiting the number of eggs to be left to hatch if I did decide to breed. You can see I have given the whole idea quite a bit of thought ....... just in case .......

This is the oldest chick which is 4weeks tomorrow or thursday who I have named `Sunny` I thought I would name most of them all related to the lovely summer weather we have been having or thier colouring , so this is Sunny , there is another lemon which is going to be `Saffy`, then we have one of the ones with a blue chest will be `Summer` and the one which looks like its going to be blue is going to be `Sky ` There is one left to name which I am still looking for so if anyone has any suggestions for a name that starts with a letter `S`

I am so happy you will keep them all. They are so beautiful. Love the names, too. Good job, Julie.

You guys are making me feel bad for parting with my chickies now!! Mind you I was VERY choosy about who I would let have them, as you may know they went to Moogie, Lousette, and my family members. I would never have let a strangerhave one. My sister gets "spot checked" lol, but she is taking great care of Mumble, and I only kept one of the babies. If space and money weren't a consideration I'd have kept them all though... Your chicks are beautiful, loving their summery names....
