Poor Pebbles passed away this morning Just 3 months after his mate, Maya.
We got him as a friend for Cookie. I’ll never forget the day we introduced the two of them – it was so beautiful (why didn’t I record it?!)! They had been calling to each other when Pebbles was in quarantine and were eager to meet. Their first encounter was on my arm. For most of the day, Cookie was very uncertain about his new friend and wouldn’t let him get too close. However, Pebbles persisted and by the end of the day they were preening each other and were the best of friends! He really got Cookie to open up and, in return, Cookie taught him all of his strange and wonderful songs...
Pebbles was the happy bird of my flock and the glue that held everyone together. He was at the bottom of the pecking order but, only because he wanted to be everyone’s friend – including me! He was the only bird to jump on my hand without the temptation of millet. He was always swinging on things, hanging upside down and getting into mischief. I’ll never forget his acrobatics when we first introduced him to their new tree. He somersaulted around the branches for hours! As explained in my previous thread, he became very close to Maya and the two of them paired up. The only fights he had were with Cookie when Maya was the remaining female. However, he was merely defending himself and fighting for his woman! He was a devoted, loving partner to Maya.
Pebbles was the loveliest and most happy-go-lucky bird I’ve ever met. There wasn't a bad feather on his body! He changed Cookie and Maya’s lives and taught me a lesson about life and having fun. He will be missed by all of the humans, Misty (the ‘tiel) and his best friend Cookie, especially.
