The old one was feeling the strain, and had a couple of design faults, so I got busy and came up with Gym II. A bit bigger and hopefully more stable:

Full marks for the design and 9 out of 10 for the construction. At first I thought you had sunk the ends of the cross members until I saw the nail or screw heads. Did you actually turn the feet on a lathe yourself? Full marks for that if you did. All in all looks like it should last a while.

I have sunk the ends in, as I did with the last one, but the strain of being lifted on and off the cage each day meant too much strain, so I ended up having to screw them as well, so to save myself time by not having to pull it apart again later on, I also drilled and screwed. Glue just wasn't strong enough to hold during the lifting and moving.

In that case I will revise my marks and give you 10 out of 10. That is better than many a so called DIY bloke cold turn out.

So we have Sam who is a fab artist, Hezz who makes fab toys that are safe. I see a Dragons Den opportunity here!
Or maybe approach the company's like Trixie and get paid to design

Oooooh looks good Hezz, well done. CDT was not on my curriculum at school , an all girls school where Home Economics and Child Care was . Purely self-taught, skysmum. Which is probably why the first had design faults and this one was needed. I am happy to say that there were less mistakes made with this one. But there is one design fault - when the little blighters go to the cage of the top of the cage - that's when they don't want to do what I want - one of my support struts is too low to get recalcitrant budgie onto perch and our through the gym ..... head slap!!!! I was thinking of making it out of gum tree branches which I have access to, but wisely, I think, decided not to due to the cleanliness issue. Branches are great for perches, and easy enough to put in a tub and scrub, but this I don't want to pull apart every time I clean so much easier to wipe over the dowels - no hidden crannies. And in case anyone is wondering why I have to move the gym, the cage with gym on top doesn't fit through the doorway, lol. Plus it would be hard to put the cover over them with the gym taking up so much room on the top.

Even the great architects don't always get it right first time so don't be hard on yourself. It has been on the news only yesterday about a building in the center of London that focuses the sun down to the street like a parabolic mirror. It melted a blokes jaguar car, blistered paint on shops and even set fire to a carpet in a café shop doorway.

funnily enough, that building is next door to mine. the side they are talking about backs onto a back street, so I hardly ever see that side, but will do when I am in on Friday.
it is quite funny... cost billions to build, with a stop half way as they ran out of funds and now they have this.. obviously wasnt thought through
it was noisy enough being built, will be interesting to see what they do to it now.. they block our view totally as it is double the height of our building

Not worth it for you guys, I am afraid. It would cost you an arm and a leg, or your first-born, in postage to get it to you. Much as I would like to do that for you Rachael Kellett and Moogie .........
