Fingers crossed we're right Hezz. Of course i may regret saying it but I think she'd have shown some sort of sign before now! Especially now that she's calmed down and doesn't attack Melman anymore..

Oh and I completely forgot.. SHE FLEW LAST NIGHT!! It was only in her cage though but she flew perfectly. Apparantly the fear of being attacked by an egg biscuit was all it took for her to fly down to the lower perches, then back up again to the very top perch! Perfect flying, aiming and landing. So I guess she's just lazy after all lol.

Wondering whether to cover all of him.. or let him see me? he will be in the cage.. just hope I can park nearby and wonder how much is this going to be.
have the ivermectin coming anyway, but thats fine.. just want him to be ok en route

"the fear of being attacked by an egg biscuit", very vicious those egg biscuits aren't they, you can't be too careful around them.... Brodie has yet to meet his egg biscuit, I'm saving it for next week, just hope it doesn't savage him And you're doing brilliantly Annette, even without a fear of birds your 2 sound quite a challenge. Ffiscool, have you had your vet expedition? Hope all went well

Yet another lazy hen; what is it with these girls? ?

Awk thanks Amy They are definitely quite a challenge! Pair of weirdos if you ask me Hahaha oh you definitely have to be wary of those egg biscuits I opened the box and there was a gang of them inside I must admit, they look quite tasty and actually smell DELICIOUS! I thought about trying one.. but I didn't want the budgies to judge me lol I'm sure Brodie will enjoy them! If not, have one yourself with a cup of tea

I'm surprised you didn't hear me She still just dandered around again when she was out tonight. I thought about bringing out the egg biscuit.. but that would be too mean! My OH has a little mini plastic parrot that someone got him for Christmas as a joke. I flew it around the bathroom and told it what a good birdie it was! Marge watched the whole time.. then just glared at me and walked on chattering to herself

She was probably swearing under her breath at that fake bird - something along the lines of "bl*^#y showoff"!

Well, it eventually happened! I was bitten! Not by Marge but by Melman!! This afternoon I was playing with them in the cage. Normally Melman flies away if my hand gets too close, but today he led me into a false sense of security and just sat on the perch. He even sang to my hand and head bobbed and we chatted away having a great time.. I left them alone for a few hours and when I came back, he still sat on the perch like before. I thought I was at last making progress.. so I put my hand back in front of him and whistled and sang to him like before. Just out of nowhere, he tried to peck my finger quite hard but I moved my hand in time.. I didn't want him to think he'd "won" so I put my hand back again and he moved away. I kept my hand resting on the perch and talked and sang some more. I must have sat like that for 20 mins.. slowly he started edging closer to me which I took as a good sign then BANG! He slammed his beak down onto my finger really hard. I stupidly jumped out of my skin and pulled my hand out of the cage I know it was the wrong thing to do but it hurt and I really wasn't expecting it. I actually felt like crying Not because it was sore but because I didn't want to react like that. I don't want him to think he got his own way by biting. I was so angry at myself.. after a few minutes I put my hand in again and he flew away as normal. I don't think he'll be singing to me again for a while!

oh poor you.. had that too.. out of the blue bites...
but well done anyway - and keep trying - did you try the perch as in making a game out of it? that is the only way bailey goes on it now..but i cant move more than a foot from the cage before he flies back
and well done Marge!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, there is one good way to look at this: Melman is finally feeling comfortable enough to give his opinion!!! Sorry, that may not be much consolation for you, but believe me, it is a positive. But .... did he actually bite - nip - you??? With both parts of his beak engaged?? You say he slammed his beak down on your finger .... Just for getting the record straight. I know the surprise factor can make you jump even though you have told yourself over and over that you are not going to do it ..... I can well understand your frustration at reacting but don't beat yourself up about it .... move on and try again for next time. Also, he doesn't have to be the one doing all the singing. Stick your hand in there and whistle, chirp, cheep, sing, talk ... whatever you wish ... If you have a long nail, offer him your nail (Misty loves a long nail to nibble on, it's a nibbling tasting thing, no biting included).

Thanks ffiscool I think if I had some warning I would've handled it better Melman is still only using the perch as a stepping stone.. I have to slowly move the perch about in front of Marge's face.. then she tries to catch it and chew it.. then jumps on. Once she's on, it's hard to get her off again! I haven't taken her more than a few feet from the cage as the bathroom is quite small but I'm gonna try the bedroom soon and see how that goes..!

Thanks Hezz. He's sitting still again today so hopefully no harm done.. I don't think he "nipped" as I didn't feel the bottom of his beak.. He jabbed the top of his beak into my finger, broke the skin and then dragged it if that makes sense? So I had a long scrape rather than a puncture lol. I've no long nails left at the minute The stress of trying to please two crazy budgies started my biting them again (my nails not the budgies!) I whistle, sing and cheap to them all the time I usually bob my head too and today I tried clapping like ffiscool mentioned If the neighbours could see me, they'd send the men in white coats to lock me up
