Beautiful pic, the first time i saw one i couldn't believe how tiny they were. Would'nt it be lovely to get a bud with those colours .

They are amazing in real life, I've seen 2. One about 25 years ago when I was fishing with a boyfriend. I sat watching the king fisher for ages. The colours are so pretty and shine in the sun. The other I saw a few months back when we were in the car, he was sitting on a post sticking out of a ditch. So majestic.

What a stunning bird. I've never seen one. The colours are so intense it almost looks like a synthetic wig.

They look very similar. I think I read somewhere that our kingfishers are related to kookaburras. If it's true that goes a long way back in the evolutionary tree.

Yes, birdguhl, the kookaburra is of the kingfisher family.
