My front garden hippies are out now ..... the photos don't do the colour justice, they are such a gorgeous deep red with a yellow throat.

Oh well, alright then! I was getting to them ......... humph, yourself!!! The first photo is a truer representation of the colour but still a bit dull, and I think you can see the yellow stripes a little better in the second. I have a heliconia named "sexy pink" and another "sexy scarlet". Sexy scarlet has only short drops out so far, and unfortunately sexy pink isn't flowering right now ...... I think the harlot needs a change of scenery.

Thank you. I like them too, but I don't really look after them properly, I feel. The tropics are good in that way - everything grows pretty much. Very forgiving on lazy, or brown-thumbed, gardeners.

Nothing wrong with that! I am a bit of a lazy gardener myself as I dont have a garden (being in a flat) and the plants I have a so low maintenance! But this is my FAVOURITE plant, my dwarf aloe mitriformis And here is my peace lilly (which has decided to flower now?!) *Shrug* At last but not least my money plant For those who are considering getting an aloe plant as they are very useful for healing etc etc a word of caution! They like to have LOTS of babies on the side in a short space of time...and I mean LOTS! Guess what my family are getting for an extra Christmas present?

samwiseg, is a money plant the same as a Jade plant? Google images give a host of different plants that have been called money plants ..... I can't quite pin it down ..... I think they are different, but both succulent type things. I have to say your aloe is a much spikier version than mine ...... yours look rather hungry, lol. So what is the family getting you for Christmas? skysmum - blaatttt!! It was rather a dull day when I took those photos, plus they are under a tree anyway ......

As I am given to understand it mine is a Money Plant Crassula Argentea whereas a Money Tree Jade plant Crassula Ovata is same family but with some different variation of some sort! Hark at me, I am starting to sound like Alan Titchmarsh

And both looking decidedly health too, skysmum. Rubber trees, unfortunately are a bit of a noxious weed for us, as, as soon as it sees an opportunity, it breaks its binds and escapes into anywhere and everything, particularly house foundations. I am sure yours is very well behaved, though. PS Sam, thought that might have been the case ....... something along those lines, anyway.

WOW skysmum! That rubber plant is ENORMOUS! I don't think I have ever seen one that big and healthy! Well done to you, will you be giving cuttings as presents too when it gets too big?
