Do you guys think it could be that he doesn't trust to go outside because of his clipped wings? I mean he is really slow and sometimes he does not calculate his flight range correctly and instead of landing on the desk right beside his cage he suddenly fly's in the height instead of towards the desk, which makes him land on the floor beside the desk. And really? The desk is not that far from his cage. I don't know why he hovers in the height like that, he should fly forward instead of the sky no??? Strange xD But I believe you guys when you say, there will be a time and I wish he would go inside the cage lol

The reason for Fin Fin not wanting to go out of his cage could be that when he does he has a bad experience. He knows he should be able to fly, but can't understand why he can't. My Joey can fly but wants to sit in his cage all the time. He has had a bad experience or two and now will only come out of the cage when I bring him out on my finger. Fin Fin has to learn how to fly and learn how to land all within his limitations. Even with full flight feathers a budgie or any other bird has to learn how to fly. In the wild it is called fledging and is the most vulnerable time for a young bird. Many die whilst fledging. You may need to help Fin Fin by having landing places slightly lower than the take off point until he gets his flight feathers back. I hope I am making sense to you.

Day 10
Today I have to say that the progress is not pretty far since day 8. FinFin starts now each time to avoid my finger. He steps up and jumps right down to his food and water dishes. He doesn't come out of the cage at all. and I have no chance to get him out fast enough before he jumps off the finger again. After all he is still very happy and content chatting when he can just see me working. In fact when I work most all day long on the computer, he will watch me all the time. There is not one minute that he does not look at me with his cute baby face. I wish he would come out and explore what I built for him. But seems he really doesn't care. I tried to trick him, I put millet on the end of the open gate, so he would maybe come out to take a bite. But NO, he doesn't come out. He only takes the millet, when I hold it under his beak *lol*
So his chattering progresses, many times I hear him mumbling something that sounds a bit like what I say, like FinFin or Baby Boy, then I hear a mumble that sounds a little bit like this 2 words. Because he repeats the mumble with the same amount of words that I said before. But no clear words yet.
Just wondering how I could make him have fun outside the cage AND how to get him out. The pet shop answered this question with close the door when he came out... Problem is he is too fast. He comes out and fly's right back inside, so there is no time to close the gate after him.
So if anyone here has experience with young budgies who do not want to play or come out of the cage and you found a good way to change their mind, please let me know!

Bailey didn't want to come out of his cage at all at the beginning. I can't remember when that changed, but it was certainly not within a few weeks. He also just sat, quietly. Finfin is seemingly happy and still getting used to everything/surroundings. I think you did fabulously in a short space of time and Finfin will come out and play, am sure
Also Bailey was hopeless at flying. Still not great at bits he hasn't get landed on. The first few times he panic flew. It was scary and I had to get him off the floor. OP is right, they need to learn and be able judge distances etc. it will come.
He knows you are there. Bailey is happy to watch me in the kitchen and still won't go in there with me.
All takes time :-)

I wouldn't close the cage door. You want him to know that he can always go back to his cage as his safe place and if he wants to sleep.
Ten days is not very long at all.

nope this is the 10th day since I started this diary, I have FinFin since December the 2nd stace! He is now with me nearly a month already. But you are all right, it takes time. I probably am still used to the very fast progress of our Ricky, that my mother got when I was a child. He could not sit on a perch yet and was very young. seems like as soon they are more then 3 month's old it gets more difficult. But every budgie is different and so is FinFin different from Ricky at that time.

Budgies without wing feathers, and unable to fly will always be happy to stay inside because they feel safe there.

Day 12 Today I changed the position of FinFin's cage a little bit, so the door shows more towards my desk and the way to jump from gate to desk is not too long anymore. He should be able to jump of the gate and come to my desk if he wanted to. He did not come out yet, but he is always looking very interested with a tilted head to the open door. He still steps up, when I put my finger in front of his belly, I don't need to touch him anymore for that, sometimes he does not want to and I just leave him then. But at active times he does the step up 99% of the times when I try.
Today I am not playing any music and I am there, FinFin did not scream one time. Maybe I do the test and play music again, while I sit here and work on my computer! He still mumbles and chatters to me all the time. No clear word yet, but we watched The wolf of wall street last night, since my husband who is an Academy member gets all the movies. we get them all at the end of the year. This movie had not one minute without the "F***" word... I really hope by a 3 hour movie he does not learn this word first xD That would be terrible, if he suddenly said *f*** all day long Well but since he does not speak yet, it is probably not possible with a movie now and then to learn this word, since I do not teach it to him. hehehe

One doesn't teach a budgie to talk, they imitate what they think they hear as far as I know.
