When i see show budgies, I think they are all great quality. Can anyone please guide me generally what really counts for me to buy a good show quality bird.
Thanks

A good quality show bird is very expensive, sometimes around 500 UK Pound.
The European breeders can sell it around 100 Euro and up.
I don't think it is for pet owners.

£500 where are you buying your budgies from BB !!! yes you would pay that if it was a champion budgie and very good pedigree. As a beginner you can buy a exhibition budgie from £20 upwards xx My pet budgies that I sell are from exhibition stock but are no good for me, to breed on with. If you joined at local club I'm sure you will meet others that will be happy to help, as I have been helped with my budgies. these 2 budgies the yellow face grey hen was given to me from a friend as he didn't need her and the grey green cock I breed from budgies given to me from my fiend too!! so its up to you how much you spend. many breeders have budgies to sell at reasonable prices x

I had the son of a world champion when I bought a dog as a pet. Some people buy pets like they buy wine. addictedtoit.deviantart.com/art/Kimlan-s-black-knight-105577977This is a portrait of him traveling in the back of our car at the time. I dream of traveling and getting a really beautiful bird.

I have contacted some big names, but lets not go into those details. Barrie knows about it. Barrie's birds are top class. He offered me very generously but sadly he was unable to export. Those breeders who can export, charge around 500 and more for one bird.

Yes, I can understand that Looks like a very good dog He was born the same month as my daughter (1987) who has that deviantart account so he has long since passed. He actually saved my daughters life. He was a good dog. I was walking along a country road when we passed a car parts area, you know one of those people that has dead cars leaking all over his property. He had dogs that looked like junk yard dogs. Very gruff rottweilers. I was stunned when I saw one running towards us and kind of froze. Kim somehow knew what the dog wanted. He was a year old as my baby was in a pink sled in one of those full piece suits that are kind of like a package. They keep the baby warmer. As the big dog lunged towards my daughter, Kim lunged under her throat and shook. He finally gave her a good shaking. I never realized how stupid it was to have a small child on the ground level in what could have been picked up so easily with no protection. I will owe him a big one forever. Sometimes I dream that we are still running in those golden fields together with eagles flying above us. I would much rather an animal than a fine wine.

I would really like to know myself what to look for. I found an organization of budgerigars in another province about 800 km from here. Their budgies are all tagged and they are part of the association of budgerigars. However after reading an article like this I wonder if I can make a choice. I'd like a bird that hasn't been plucked and stuff like the article says. What do we look for? Is this article overly negative? budgerigars.wordpress.com/show-birds/I was googling how to choose exhibition budgies and found this. It's not very encouraging. Also there are many things I can see which are false in that article. Budgies do die off even in captivity. Some are kept outside in the winter, they don't all have a soft couchy life.

After a lot of searching in internet, I finally was able to contact a breeder and visited him some 100 km away from where I live. As he said he has been breeding exhibition budgies for last 50 years and he had great set up and some great show budgies, I was amazed to see his two champion birds (light greens). So after an hour of chatting and visiting the birds, nest boxes etc, i requested him to sell me a pair I if possible. It is incredible to say that he gifted me a pair of Exhibition budgies plus one female so in total 3 (Sky blue cock and 2 Opaline Greygreen hens). They are all about 1 year old. He also said that these birds are not excellent birds but for me they are good to begin with. He promised that in coming 4 months if he would have extra chicks from his good birds then he will consider giving me. I am really happy for this. Only one female's health doesn't seem totally perfect to me but i have to wait how she is doing in this week.
P.S: I am not new to budgies as I have breaded pet budgies for more than 15 years and my father was also breeder. But i do not have experience of exhibition budgies at all and as i changed my location from Asia to Europe, here i have lesser facilities as far as space is concerned.
I will post pictures as well.
