I've had Brodie for over 7 months now & have been weighing him weekly since early Dec. he was 39g then & has steadily gained weight, now he is 49g. What is an ideal budgie weight & is he still growing?!

It depends what kind of bird they are. The biggest of the show types can be quite hefty.
I'm not sure when they stop growing. It took Boo until he was two years to get to his full-sized weight. He's now 42g, but was 38g consistently up until that time.

I would have said about twelve months. And then they are filling out into their adult body ...... think of teenage boys; they may reach their final height by around 18 for some, but will still be beefing up well into their 20's ....... so it does depend a bit on just what you are looking for. At 7-9 months, I would be feeling that Brodie will put on more weight before he plateaus. As Stace said, with different sized budgies, weights are different. And from photos it is hard to say what a "good" weight would be for him.

I thought as they are referred to as adults around the 8-9month age that meant they were fully grown, this growing up business is rather confusing! So is 49g ok & not a bit on the podgy side? B still looks a v small bird to me, at least in comparison to Misty & other people have commented on how slight he is. I guess each bird has it's own natural weight just as humans do! I read a newspaper article recently about a champion bird & it said the average weight is around 25-35g which seems very low but I'm guessing he was referring to his particular show birds. ps Hezz, I like how you put it in reference to teenage boys!

Maybe he was talking about canaries? ?? Show budgies are the big bruisers of the budgie-world. I wonder what he could be meaning? Re teenage boys ...... I have two , and they have friends; the difference in sizes can be amazing!

Hezz, here's a photo of the newspaper clipping re budgie size. I hoe you can read it ok. On re-reading it, it's in the 'Facts' box so may just be a journalist who put that not the breeder! He lives in my town but I'd never heard of him before this.

Considering that one of their other "facts" is wrong - Aboriginal meaning good bird? we can be certain that they haven't researched their other "facts" either. PS Is the Daily Mail not a newspaper to admit to reading??

This is one of those budgies which are sold for fortunes.

Thanks @marrianne, quite a range then! Hezz, the DM is a tabloid & no, not something many would admit to reading, my sister was horrified that an aunt reads it (she sent me the clipping)!
