And that's with molt and age.
Boo is Blue, so with spread of Yellow, it is appearing Green.
Apple is White, so the spread of Yellow making it Yellow.

in general, or mine? I meant that if budgies do have a colour spread, would that only apply to those with more than one colour, so it changes the feathers, i.e. the blue and green making yellow etc
As Bailey is grey, and he is now moulting again, I have not seen any change in shade, as in getting more vibrant, different shades of grey (no, not 50 shades of grey....), and wondered if those buds with one main colour, do have shade changes as they get older/moult etc

Thanks for the info BB Fascinating little creatures our budgies are! Ffiscool , my paddy is grey, like Bailey. He has a yellow face and I have noticed he has went a different shade of grey as he has got older. But with BB explaining about yellow faced birds, I think that must be because of his yellow in him. (Am I right?!) with Bailey being white with grey you might not see any difference as I am gathering it seems to be yellow that's the culprit for changing their colour (?!?!)

When I first got Apple he was white, pale blue and had a pale yellow face. He is around 7/8 months old now and with each moult he seems to be turning more yellow. All of his white now has a yellow tinge apart from the wing tips. None of my other birds have changed colour so noticeably. Is this normal? Or has this happened to anyone else? Hi Lemonade, Its always evident that a young budgies colors become more intense and vibrant after their first moult. It happens in all color varieties, and is often more noticable in the yellow face blue varieties. Its not that the birds get more yellow in their plumage, its just that the yellow already present becomes deeper more vibrant and intense after their first moult, which often then gives the blue coloring in their plumage mixed with the yellow a more sea foam green appearance. I had a yellow face dominant pied baby like your apple, and I sold him when he was a juniour. Later on I got to see him again after he had become an adult, and he was markedly different in appearance, with his coloration so much deeper and more vibrant and contrasting. It kinda made me sorry I had sold him. But thats usually how it is with budgies, we often get pleasantly surprised at the greater color definition and beauty of the adult birds, as compared to when they are younger, which makes it sometimes worth holding onto the young ones a little longer. Your Apple looks to me to be an opaline yellow face dominant pied spangle, which is quite a mix of varieties, he's a very lovely bird.

Thank you Trefto. That really is quite a mix. I'm going to note that down. I might even put up photos of my other budgies as I am curious to what type they are. Right now I think Apple is looking really good. His colour and feather condition is great. I keep whispering to him he's the most handsome of the lot. I have a little one, Pippin who is still to go through his first moult. He is similar to Apple but no yellow, just white. It will be interesting to see his differences in time.
