Hezz I am very very sad to hear about Bluey's problems. With your care he will have plenty of reasons to keep fighting on. Lots of love from the O'Brien house- me, kids and budges x

Thanks Swanny and budgiefriend, your thoughts give us (me) a lot of comfort. Gave Blue his baytril tonight and then a "cuddle" and off he flew several times around the living area while I was trying to put him back in his cage and tuck him up for the night. Not a lot of seed consumed today, but mixed him up some egg and biscuit, made it quite moist and he ate heaps. Still see him lifting his wings trying to make room and he seemed to be having a problem around his vent...... not poop, but wondered if the mass was causing discomfort. Hopefully results tomorrow, and a new direction forward.....I live in hope. Thanks, Sarah, your message came up while I was posting. I know we all have to go there eventually, but I think sometimes not knowing is easier.

I do hope he gets better soon. I would feel awful if something like that happened to Lizzy You have my support during this time.

Thank you each and every one of you. Support is such a wonderful thing. Blue's results came back late yesterday, so dropped into the vet's this morning for a chat (they are good about that - no fee, just a chat). While the results didn't give any definitive answers and only confirmed what we already know, ie that he is suffering some degree of liver (and possibly pancreatic) damage, we can still hold some small hope that the baytril will provide some improvment if the damage is from an infection of some sort. Personally, I don't think so - his poops have been odd for some time, but he had been stressed by the addition of Smudge to his living space, and I, wrongly, put it down to stress. I won't be making that mistake again! In himself, he seems okay. Chirping away and being hassled by Sparky, but will stay in his small cage until the baytril is finished, but he isn't fussed on his seed pot, getting into the millet and eating his greens and bottlebrush branch and some more egg and biscuit today. I do see him gaping sometimes which worries me, and he is kicking/scratching his abdo more than usual. I have to keep an eye on his weight - to make sure he is getting enough without the seed intake, and they all drinking weak black tea. It's a bit like a granny's teaparty, they only need the cucumber sandwiches. He hasn't been as poorly as he was the night before I took him to the vet (a good thing) but I don't want him to get too agitated in case he gets breathless again. He flies off as he would normally do, and I stress out!

Let's hope he just has an infection, and the baytril will do the trick. Fingers crossed, for both of you.

Oh Hezz, I do hope the baytril helps him. Think of how it has managed to pull our Freddie back from the brink several times now. Good luck to you and Bluey. Freds and me are sending positive baytril vibes to you:)

Thanks, Stace. I am really hoping that after the Ab's are finished I can get him onto some holistic feed - wheatgrass and milkthistle for example, to decrease the toxicity in the liver and that it may then have a chance to repair itself. I don't know if we aren't too far gone for that but will try everything. The diet is to be less seed, more greens and millet is fine - which happily, is what he wants to eat at the moment. Got a pot of sprouting seed for him, just another day or two and it will be big enough.

Swann used to go mad for sprouted seed! She's not bothered now though which is a shame because there's so much good stuff in them.
Sending love and strength xx

Thanks Nat and Swanny. We will certainly be seeing plenty of green stuff in the birds' cage from now on. The baytril is helping to some extent, and although we have another course of treatment to go through, the vet hasn't ruled out him having top-up doses down the track.

Hezz - aye, we're on tons of green stuff here too. Highly recommend frondy carrot tops if you've never tried him on them, Swann thinks they're great!

Thank you Marianne and Sarah! Your concern means a lot to me. Blue is holding his own, in fact if I couldn't see the abdo bulge I wouldn't really be sure anything was wrong. I can't believe that I thought it was normal, now that someone has pointed it out to me. He visited the vets back in March and she didn't notice it then - indicates to me it has grown rather quickly which I worry about. He is still in semi-isolation, mostly so he gets some peace from Sparky who is inclined to love him ragged when they are out together. But he has had a week of Psitta-vet (for psittacosis) as a precaution, and I think it is time he returned to the large cage with the other two. He is literally climbing the walls of the little cage, wanting out of there. I will just have to be vigilant and pull him out again if he is hassled to the extent where his breathing becomes laboured again. My wheatgrass is growing....slowly! All birds eating plenty of greens. I am adding some ground up milkthistle capsules to his eggfood, that hasn't put him off it (mix in a little vegemite when he loses interest ) but so far I haven't noticed any of them eating the milkthistle seeds. Just my luck! And still waiting to hear if I can import this tonic from the States. Along with everything else I am growing, I may have to grow my own carrots too! I can't find carrots with tops left on anywhere! Supermarket - I don't quite trust.
