Thanks, hawk and Ozzy. Aye, Bf. If only the world was made up of "if only's" hey? And we could make them all right? Sweetpea, how is the hernia going to affect her long term? Is it gradually going to get worse, or is it a static thing? I am seriously considering getting Bluey to the vet to see if they can't drain off any fluid. She did say wait until it is impeding his mobility, but I am worried now that it is so large outside his body, what is it like inside? He wriggles his tail end every time he poops - luckily, I think, they are moist, so at least he doesn't have hard poo trying to travel through his cloaca. That's probably me extrapolating human needs to budgies, though. He has lost his feathers over the worst of the tumour as well. If it were the slightest bit amusing, I would say his back end resembles a baboon's.

Hi Hezz. Unfortunately, the vet (well respected avian vet) did not have anything optimistic to say about Atilla's condition. From what I understand, the hernia may cause complications. The first thing he mentioned is that it may interfere with her pooping so you can imagine that every time she poops (yes, with that exaggerated tail wiggle) I go over the top praising her! I completely understand the baboon description. Atilla has also lost feathers over the lump though she may have pulled them out. On the far side it is fluffy though & I can only assume it's because she cannot reach that far to pull them out..... I did see her boyfriend Cagney preening them the other day though. I hope Bluey stays active & in good spirits for a long time. If he doesn't get too stressed going to the vet, it might be worth another visit. They are such amazing little creatures.

Only my best thoughts and prayers for Bluey and Atilla. They are such wonderful little characters and an inspiration to us all.

Thanks for your kind thoughts BF. You are describing Bluey almost to a T, Sweetpea. Although he was diagnosed by xray, and really it doesn't matter what their problem is called, it isn't going to go away, but makes me wonder if our two birds aren't suffering the same thing. Although Bluey hasn't pulled his feathers......I think the growth just isn't allowing feathers to grow as it has taken over. His belly feathers at the front often sit out over the perch now all fluffy. Looks cute, but at what price? He has always jumped back on his perch in the vet's and started tweeting away in the past. But that was before they knocked him out for the xray. May be a different story now.

I made an appointment last week for Blue to see his favourite vet which is tomorrow. Wouldn't you know it, but almost as soon as I did, I have noticed a change in him, and not for the better. He is much sleepier, still eating and flying but not getting as much height as before. He has gone from 45g to 54g since Nov when he was first diagnosed, but has lost condition. The last day or two I have noticed too that he is sitting more fluffed as well. S*** life is hard sometimes. I can only hope and pray that she is going to be able to drain off some fluid, otherwise I don't think he is long with us.

Thank you so very much, everyone! I have just gotten him back after having to walk out and leave him in Karen's very capable hands. They drained 10 mls of fluid!!!! So he should now weigh about what he weighed before the growth became so noticeable. Talk about a weight off me, too. I feel weak with relief. He is now sitting in my room keeping quiet and getting himself back together as he is still a bit fluffed up after his ordeal, but should be right later this afternoon. This is me at the moment: ;D ;D I am still waiting for a call as Karen is going to spin down the fluid and see what cells she can see - or anything else, for that matter. His abdo is still bulbous, but that is expected - think pregnant woman to just-given-birth woman - and she could feel a hard fibrous-type lump in there as well, which will continue to grow, but at least we have had a little reprieve. My beautiful boy!

I'll say, Stace! I honestly didn't like our chances of there being something to drain, and therefore the chances of him lasting much longer. I must go now and spoil him rotten.
