Its hard not to panic when they first come out of their cage and bump into everything.I was on edge every time Belle was out, but they soon get the hang of it and the bumps and crash landings get less and less.Kenny is doing so well already Im sure he will be flying like a pro very soon.

wow Bebe must be really an exception then. He came out himself and did not seems very afraid of his surrounding. In the matter of fact he started running over the floor and try to preen the little things on the carpet. But Bebe also has his wings clipped. That was probably done by the breeder. Or from the pet store, who knows... But still. My other bird was always trying to fly back to the cage, because he got scared!

My daughter has the same problem with her bird. She doesn't like being outside the cage much. I told her to make many landing spots. They bought a house and are moving soon so they can't put landing spots all over the room she is in now. In her house she will have a room for the bird and then she will set up better.

Having his wings clipped may make a difference tanja but I think bebe would probably be the same either way he's just got that personality! Yeah phoebe I will try and budgiefy my living room at bit more over the coming days see if I can't provide him with a few landing spots! I've a question to you all re seed I've been filling Kenny's bowl every day then blowing off the husks and transferring the un-eaten seed to a fresh bowl every day would it be better to just give him less seed every day and throw out any that's left? How much should I put in his bowl? I don't want to under feed him? I read 2-3teaspoons is enough what do you think guys? Hezz ffiscool Moogie mizloco carol62

I have Bailey's seed dish full each day, as saves him having to dip in really low.. The next day, I empty the top half away, put the remainder into a clean dish (I have two the same) and then fill it up.
If I have had egg food on his seed, or grit, then I tend to throw the whole lot away.. Yes it is a waste, but I find it easier. I used to blow the husks off, but that went everywhere and on the days I do this before I go into the office, I just found it quicker to do what I now do
bailey has two of those rope perches and loves them. His are on the outside at each end of the cage

But feel it will be much better this way I have two bowls and water bottles for an easy life haha x

I don't measure the seed but supply plenty when they do have it, which isn't all day. I don't have a problem blowing away the husks; it is a simple enough task and I am not really into throwing away something that hasn't been used ........ it is called being tight with your money. Maybe I was Scottish in a former life. And no offence intended to our Scottish members ....... I think it is a good trait.

A cheaters way to blow the husks is to put the seeds in a deep square dish and shake them the husks go to the end of the bowl. Then with my vacuum nozzle hovering high enough I suck up the husks. Repeat a few times. I have checked to see how this works by looking in the waste in my vacuum to find I mostly suck up husks.
