I hope Woody feels better soon. It's upsetting when they are not on form. Sending lots of get-well vibes.

Did you manage to get Woody a vet appointment? How is he today?

Thanks, yes - he is being seen tomorrow early evening. He seems okay - not overtly unwell - but still eating very little. He has had 30 hours or so in the office on his own and as he has not developed any more signs illness, I have relented and brought him back to the living room. He has brightened up quite a bit with the noise of the others, and Charlie's attempts to eat a bit of his seedstick through the bards has stimulated him to eat more of it himself.

Hi all Woody well-wishers! Yes, we're back from our visit. Woody was seen by Kevin who has seen him most before. He let me stay in the room this time when he examined him, which is a first. He gave him a thorough going over and couldn't find anything obvious, which is great as I was worried about a tumour or enlarged thyroid. But he did think that the weight loss was significant, even though it was only 4g (his weight last time he was there was 40g - I thought it was 43g) but he didn't think he was seeming very underweight even so - not really skinny over keel bone etc. Also he didn't think he had lost it quickly recently, or else he would have seemed ill. He said it could be that he is experiencing a slow decline with the liver disease which could only be determined with x-ray and bloods, and he didn't think he seemed ill enough yet to justify that. The other possibility is that he is actually stable at 36g as he is very active. We would only be able to know that if I had been doing the conscientious regular weigh-in thing but I haven't as I find it too horrible having to chase them down. I think I must face up to that and inflict on them though as it would be very useful. That leaves the very recent relative inactivity and lowered food intake issue to observe over the next few days, as well as more weighing. If he loses any more weight it would indicate more testing. Meanwhile he is going to do some of the usual droppings tests but doesn't expect to find anything. So, not very conclusive but I am relieved that there isn't anything obvious. Since getting home I opened the door of the cage, but he didn't come out at first. However, he has since eaten a little bit of millet (but only a little) and ventured forth and had a welcome from the others, and is now having a good preen. Thanks again so much for all your concern. x

So glad that there isn't anything obvious, i guess its just a suck it and see situation for the moment. It could well be that his activity in recent times has reduced his weight. Hope that the other tests are clear and that he starts to pick up .

I really do hope he gets back to his normal self soon. It's so hard with budgies - I just wish they could use their talking ability to tell us what is wrong.

I bought some almost flat round scales, pre Bailey, very cheap in Argos £8.99. They are very accurate but for weighing, I put toys on them, takes a while, but B will jump on too. I weigh the toy first so know what he is. Would Woody play on scales if a toy there and made to be a game?

A bit of millet on the scales is my form of bribery for weighing ....... which I haven't been very good about lately, either. Mostly because I have no more answers for getting Smudge to lose weight ..... even with all the flying about Mango is making her do. I don't want to see! That really was an inconclusive visit ..... at least nothing too obviously serious was raising its ugly head. Will Woody eat eggfood? I used to give Blue a feed of eggfood moistened with some liver tonic every day when he started to decline with his tumour. He had no problems eating it then - I think he knew it was good for him.
