Old Jo and i have had a little chat today. As he is now 12 years and 7 months old he has agreed that he is getting very unsteady on his little legs and is forever being knocked down, jostled out of the way at food time and pushed off his favorite swing at bedtime. The others don't mean it of course and love old Jo to bits, except Chilli when he's got one on, but the general hustle and bustle that goes on is worrying him now and he spends too much time hiding away on a bottom perch in the corner looking worried. So we have decided that he is going to have a special retirement cage and plans are being made to check a few out which will meet with his approval, not to high rise, a little bungalow we think kitted out so that he can get around comfortably and reach things with no trouble also light enough to carry around the house so that he can be where we are. His holidays will be spent with his nanny, my mum, who will spoil him rotten . He has agreed that he will now stay in the house and not return to the aviary when the others do. Something we thought would happen last year but he picked up and spent another quite happy summer there, we don't think he will manage it again this summer though. So for now and from today he is having a trial run in the Hagen cage on his own, the others have been visiting and having chats at the bars and he seems to be enjoying his trial retirement having first dibs at the food dish and veggies and is now roosting on his very fav swing which he didn't have to fight for tonight . To be continued.... Having our chat

Ah I want a little bungalow to retire in eventually too. I think it's a great idea for Jo Jo. He's done all the hustle and bustle and that's for the young ones. Why should he have to fight for the swing it have to elbow his way to get his lunch at his time in life. Bit of space and comfort is what he needs.

Oh, Jo. Kinda sad in a way that he is finding the others a bit too much, but I do like the idea of a little low-set bungalow with disabled fittings in place. Like Nina, I wouldn't mind one either if I make it to 12 in budgie years. I'd come to visit if I could, Jo. Just hope you are not too lonely, and the youngsters remember that the oldies are worth much more than a push off the swing. I must confess to being a bit sad, but high time you had some peace and quiet in your life. And I hope you get to enjoy the bungalow for many many years to come.

What a pleasant thought, a bungalow for the retiree. As already said I hope he doesn't get forgotten by the others and that he doesn't miss being among them. A lovely, lovely story you tell. I am touched.

Well its been a strange day today, i too am very sad that we have had to make this decision, while my heart is screaming that its just not right my head is telling me that this is the only thing to do in the best interest of Jo. Jo himself seems fine and told me that it was a bit odd but he would get used to it, he certainly seems very relaxed and hasn't fallen once today, he has had the best of the food and a nice shower and has been preening and rearranging his poor mish mash of feathers. When he fell yesterday morning before the move he lost a very large tail feather which has left quite a bald spot so he has been trying to cover it up. The others are a little worried about the whole arrangement and have been paying regular visits to have a chat, Inca is especially anxious about the whole thing as she adores Jo. Im looking for any signs of depression in Jo and indeed the others and have a plan B up my sleeve if things start to worry me, and no it doesn't involve another new bud . To be continued....

Ah.... it looks like they are queueing for an audience with Old Jo. (Has Chilli gone & jumped the queue though?!) Yes sweetpea its interesting to note that he was the first out when the doors were open this morning to say good morning. He then spent about half an hour trying to find a way in or maybe a way to break Jo out . Who knows what goes through these little minds but he was def concerned about him being away from the group, he paid frequent visits throughout the day.

It might be nice if Inca could stop in with him on occasions? It seems she is the least likely to give him a shove and the one who will maybe miss him the most. But what are Jo's feelings towards Inca? Does he see her as just another piece of trouble, or as someone whose company he enjoys? I particularly love that middle photo ..... Hey, cuz, are you all right in there?

Today my old mate Ted, or plan B as mum has started calling him, came for a chat and a bite to eat. He stayed most of the day but started making himself comfortable on my fav swing so i showed him the door and thanked him for coming. There has been some mention that Inca may come tomorrow but im not sure im looking forward to that, she follows me round and freaks me out a bit, i know she means well but she doesn't say a lot and just sits staring at me. (sadly Hezz, he doesn't feel the same about Inca as she does about him, her visit will be to please her more i think ) Mum has ordered my new retirement/summer mobile home today from her friend in the local pet shop, no postage to pay and hasn't got the hassle of sending it back if she doesn't think its good enough for me but she is keeping it under wraps until she inspects it herself on Friday. Mum thinks im looking better and i certainly feel very rested and relaxed AND the millet treat bowl is ALLLLL mine tonight. To be continued......
