Just to add, they are very cute little birds, very pretty. Oh and you said you are worried about 2 of them, they all look affected the same to me.

What beautiful babies, i love the colours. It does sadly look like FM. I cant believe how much of this im seeing at the moment, in pet shops and on the forum. I wish breeders would stop breeding related birds and birds with FM it really is irresponsible breeding and spoiling whole generations of budgies . My FM is almost 13 so its not a death sentence jellybean, they can make wonderful pets

Thanks to everyone who participated in answering my query on my birds with French Moult. I had suspected as much myself, but hoped I might be wrong, sadly not. I have been in touch with the breeder and he has agreed to take them back.

I will ask that question when I meet him tonight. The thought of that happening has been troubling me too. Although others have said FM birds can live a happy life, they are still not doing what is inherant in birds to do, and that is to fly, these babies hang onto their perches and flap their wings for all they're worth, and go nowhere, they can't even make it up from the bottom of the cage, unless they use their beak/claws, and I have the perches at the lowest position for them. It's heartbreaking for me to give them back, but as I said in a previous post, I had a wee budgie who I nursed for the best part of 6 months, back and forward to the vet, him being hospitalised for days sometimes, and when I lost him last August I was heartbroken, I can't go through the same again, as I have read that FM, can and often does affect their internal organs. But I will certainly ask what his intentions are.

If I didn't live so far away I would have them without a second thought. Having my own I know what lovely little things they are and so full of character. They do learn that they can't fly and get very fast at running and climbing about. I do know what you mean though, having a bird that can fly is one of the reasons why we have them, so we can enjoy watching them free flying.

I don't think their wing feathers have been clipped; I think they have dropped out ..... same with their tail feathers. Birds can have different degrees of FM it would seem with some being more badly affected than others. I remember reading somewhere, though, that these baby feathers can be the worst affected, with subsequent feather growth and retention not being so severe.
And agree that all three are affected. Jellybean, don't accept replacement birds from this man! He is obviously unscrupulous. I am sure that with the forum network we can find some beautiful little buds for you.
