I think mine do. Well, I would like to BELIEVE they do Everyone talks about how lovely their birds are and also how mischievous they can be as well! But answer me this: Do you ever tell your birds off when they are doing something they shouldn't? And do they know its them? Mine do....and especially one in particular....

Yes mine both know there names. Bert will look over his shoulder at me when I tell him off and Ernie will move quickly and then look at me with all innocents. Little cheeky boys.

It certainly looks like Alfie knows hia his name and the others knew you weren't talking to them. It's a very interesting question though.

Echo, my cage bird knows his name, he says it often enough and he looks round when I call him. The aviary birds don't though.

I think mine do, with the exception of Pippin. Sprite responds more to 'clever girl' than Sprite.

Some of mine do know their names, but most don't.

Little monkey! Boo knows his name. Especially when he's being told off. He also knows my name and Marc's name. I tell him when it's Marc on the phone (so he can say hello) and when we can hear Marc arriving home.

I love how he's looking around all innocently! Munchy will look up when I call him, but if I say "Munchkin!" will stop whatever he's doing, run away from it and then look at me. He was chewing at the skirting board behind the telly the other week and I said 'Munchkin!' sternly and he stopped and ran out from behind the telly. He also leaves his Kevins alone for a bit sometimes. Speaking of which, he must have hidden one last night because I can hear it now. That stems from when we had the old curtains, because I used to shout 'Munchkin!' and force him to get off them, so in the end I only needed to say it. He also knows that I'm Zoe, because he says "Where's Zoe?" occasionally, but only when I'm not home. And we notice that he likes to play behind the door with the ball. Sometimes he won't be playing there but if one of us leaves, normally my granddad, he throws the ball over to the door and goes over there to play, as if he's trying to follow or to wait for the person to return. Edit: Just had another example of the Munchkin thing. I was about to take my coffee mug out to the kitchen but because the living room door has been open I didn't know where Munchy had gotten to with his Kevin, so I just called Munchkin, without it being stern, and he flew out of the room I was going to have to walk through and up onto the mirror. I told him he was a good boy for that. Where he had been playing I might have stepped on him.

Yes he does look around all innocent doesn't he?! Fantastic account of Munchy Ira! He is a smart fella that's for sure! Love the fact you can call him and he comes, and that granddad can throw a ball for him to play with....you sure he wasn't a dog in his previous life?

I'm not sure that Joey knows his name or not. When I speak to him by name he will turn his head even if I'm in another room. So maybe he does. I used to close every door behind me for fear he would follow me. Now I don't bother and sometimes I will call out to him so he knows I'm still around. I can see his cage through various mirrors and windows that's when I see him look around for me. If I just talk or whistle he will not look around. Maybe he does know his name.

I guess they tend to associate the sound of their names with themselves, as we most likely use it a lot when we talk to them, but not when we address other people. I think he might have been a dog, Sam! My mum's husband often jokes the he looks like a dog with a bone when he shakes a Kevin between his feet He's not so good at coming when I call him because I want him to come to me, though. I think he's better on sunny days, but today especially he is not cooperating.

I wonder too, if it is tone related with Bailey, rather than he knows his name.
I have often called him something else, like gorgeous or similar, and he turns.
Certain expressions, he obviously likes, as when i say the whole sentence, he comes from wherever he is
If I am in another room, I do keep saying in a minute, or I am here.. as he isnt yet coming out of the lounge
But yes, makes you wonder and they are indeed very clever

Misty always reacted to his name & our 1st budgie would come out from wherever he was playing when called. I don't think Brodie knows his name yet although I did sharply say 'BRODIE' the other day when he was investigating my jigsaw (kept under a sofa on a board) & he shot away from it & looked all innocent! I'm not sure if that was the tone I said it in though or not!
